$2300 to spend on a laptop (it's financial aid money, I want it primarily for school but if it could at least play some games it would be nice for when I travel).
This is going to be my laptop for the next 3-4 years, so I want it to be powerful enough (and of high enough quality) to last me for that timeframe.
I was looking at Lenovo W520 with i7 2760 + Quadro 2000M, which would probably accomplish what I want and came in a little under budget. I know Lenovo has a good rep., but could I do a lot more with the money by looking at a different brand? The video card seems to be the weak point in terms of any gaming I might do, but I don't know what would be significantly better. I just know that I don't want a Mac...

My Lenovo r500 just got thrown half way across the room and it just kept on running. Spilled water on it, dropped it a bunch of times. Not even a scratch. Runs flawlessly. Serious quality there.
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
All ThinkPads fulfill mil-specs, so you really can't go wrong with them. Friend of mine schlepped one across all of Southeast Asia through all kinds of shit for nearly two years and it purred like a kitten. Sold me on them.
Am3 board with 2 pcie 16 slots? Might be able to get a second gtx460 on tha cheap.

FUCK $2300 for a laptop.
e: I mean it so much that I invented a new word for it.
The financial aid is a one-time "Special Circumstances" purchase for a PC...I don't have time for a job outside of school, so my sole income is loan money until graduation...I want this to be a purchase that will last for 3 years or so.unnamednewbie13 wrote:

If I were working, I would agree and I would spend half of that and just buy another, much better model in a year or two...but that's not the case, and I have no way of predicting what my situation will be in 2 years, other than I will still be in school with no income other than financial aid...so I want to make the purchase count, so to speak.
I started looking at various manufacturers/builds, but this will be my first laptop and I'm not familiar with what brands are good or bad. Some brands obviously have instant recognition, but others I'm in the dark about.
Example:
CLEVO P150HM-A Core i7 Notebook Intel HM65, 15.6" Full HD LED Matte 95% NTSC Color Gamut, FPR, PCIe x16 MXM-III Discrete Graphics
INTEL Core i7-2760QM Quad-Core 2.4 - 3.5GHz TB, HD Graphics 3000, 6MB L3 Cache, 32nm, 45W
ATI Radeon HD 6990 2GB GDDR5 Mobile
KINGSTON 8GB (2 x 4GB) HyperX PnP PC3-12800 DDR3 1600MHz SDRAM SODIMM, CL9, 1.5V, Non-ECC
SAMSUNG 256GB 830 Series SSD MLC Samsung S4LJ204X01, 520/400 MB/s, 2.5-Inch w/ 3.5-Inch Bracket, 7mm, SATA 6 Gb/s
CLEVO Dual Layer Super-Multi DVD/RW Optical Drive
NETWORK Built-in 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet LAN Card
INTEL Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 Wireless Card, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, 11/54/450 Mbps, Internal PCIe Half Mini Card
NOTEBOOK ACCESSORY, Built-in Fingerprint Reader (Included)
MICROSOFT Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Edition w/ SP1, OEM
WARRANTY, Standard 1 Year Warranty for Clevo Notebooks
This comes in right under $2300, and seems to be pretty badass for the money. But I don't know a thing about Clevo. Reviews seem pretty decent though...
im sure mine weighs more than that

I've got the HAF 932 full tower and it's 27 empty. With 5 HDDs + mobo + vid card + PSU it weighs a ton...I can't imagine 47lbs empty plus 13 HDDs and the rest of the components.
mine is 19 empty.RTHKI wrote:

i have a psu, mobo ram cpu, 2 dvd drives, 4 hdds, and obviously all the leads. so I'm guessing it's close to 47

Doesn't Chrome open a new process for each tab you have open? So ...
And each extension
Check out Digital Storm Online. Their QA is pretty solid, if you don't care about cost.-CARNIFEX-[LOC] wrote:
