I use Winamp for my mp3 list with no associations, that way if I start any other media, it doesn't get interrupted. On that note, I use WMP because, well fuck it's built in, but will gladly use VLC/MPC/anything else if it's the only one that's claimed the file extension. Fuck I even have Zune because of my phone.

you know i'm clearly and obviously addressing all those petty minded individuals who won't use it because it's "apple and sucks". that's fanboyism. if you have a thought-out approach to what you use - and if it works for you - then fine, you're not harming anybody. my problem is with people that say shit like "itunes takes up loads of resources". really? well no not really. unless by that you mean "i have a computer from 2002 with 1Gb of DDR2 RAM and itunes doesn't run very well", in which case... no surprises. at the moment, with a 500Gb library loaded and playing, itunes is using 120k of my system memory. in comparison, this new and all-so-amazing firefox client (which insists on doing updates to improve its speed and efficiency every 2 days) is operating at 250k memory with 6 tabs open (one of them being a flash-player). so, where's the inefficiency?

oh and the plugin container.exe (which is now separate) for my firefox flash window is running at 150k, also, bringing my browsing experience alone up to 350k of system memory. for more comparison, skype - a program i seldom use and even then only for simple text-chat - is running at 75k system memory (i have a contacts list of about 10 people). my idle windows search indexer is sitting at 60k. the smartware for my external hard-drive takes up 25k. so how exactly is a media player that has made a library of all of my photos, videos, podcasts, tv shows, audiobooks and huge music library... which takes up 120k... inefficient? people are so full of shit when they talk about itunes. oh and this is a WINDOWS machine, not even OSX.

I used to use winamp, switched to itunes when my library became unmanageable over a year ago. I have not had ANY reason to switch again since.

I'm not a fan of DIY programs either. download these eighteen plugins and skins to make it a great music player! no thanks

Itunes on osx is utter crap too. At least from my expetience with a 160gb library on a network drive.

Rhapsody subscription downloads mostly. I just basically downloaded everything I wanted. Crashed the downloader app tons of times.

With Rhapsody's web-based player though, it's pretty much a moot point to download. Smartphone browser + Rhapsody subscription = almost no need to own music anymore.

And then when I do buy them, they are on Amazon's cloud, and then on Google Music's Cloud.

just under 3000 songs here, although I don't keep anything I don't listen to. I used to have a lot of filler stuff, now each album has been individually added and is supposed to be there. It's a bit obsessive but I like to have an as well-maintained music library as possible

i don't use FLAC, really, i don't have much functional use for it. i use 320/V0.

a simplified version of my itunes library (i.e. the local non-networked stuff) stands at around 2,250 artists in some 5,273 albums, totalling around 72,708 files; or, 193.3 days.
