Make sure you have the HDD controller drivers (so you can actually install to the disk) and the network drivers (so you can download everything else) on a USB stick

Download from motherboard manufacturer website. Alternatively, if you have a second PC, you can always download it from there if needed. Windows usually does a pretty good job of getting everything to run by itself.

Ok cool. I did it once for a mate on a new system with the disc I have here and it worked fine, no problems whatsoever.

So once I've backed everything up (I'm sure I have but I'll check one more time) what's the best way to go about it? Straight from the Win7 CD or should I format the HDD first? It is partitioned into a C and D drive, but after this I just want one C drive, and make my second HDD the D drive.

Most of the cost are in all the little sideline components. I don't want to reuse the PCV-1000B (but love having room to work around inside a machine), nor throw in the generic 550W PSU I have lying around. I need more space for video editing, and typically get a faster HDD with each gaming desktop build. But I've kept within my $2000 range nicely.

A very good price actually. The cheapest (and best) place here does 12Gb of Corsair Vengeance for $225 at 1600Mhz. Almost as good. I'm pretty happy with my 4Gb of OCZ though
