in my mind the 8800GTX is one of the best graphics cards ever made... it was king of the benchmarks for so so long.

afaik the first card that beat it for price:performance was those new-chip (g92 or something? not a clue) 8800GT's
Yeah I think you mean the updated 8800GTS...

But yes, the 8800GTX was a monster compared to everything else for a long time... However it was allways abit expensive, though you got what you payed for, granted...

Yea... doesn't really look like you can do that.

We are still waiting for the Intel's Sandy Bridge, but the guys at Intel really kicked AMD's nuts now. They have 22nm Ivy Bridge samples already in 22nm production. Mass production is planned late 2011. So, Global Foundries is now a generation behind in process technology.

Doesn't look too good for competition tbh, seems like AMD has hell of a time ahead.

e: oh and Gigabyte will swap the rainbow colours for black in their future motherboards. Sweet, isn't it.

I thought bulldozer was comming out before then, also, couldn't agree more about gigabyte, the old colours were terrible.

That's a very nice colour scheme.

And I thought Gigabyte died down on the rainbow colours with their i-series motherboards, and just went for an icy-blue look?

Though I do prefer the black and dirty-yellow.

So is Sandy Bridge to crash AMD's Bulldozer party, and Ivy Bridge to destroy it. Highend SB is scheduled for second half 2011, means IB is following almost immediately. This puts AMD in very bad spot. Intel is going all in.

So unless Bulldozer is huge success, we aren't going to see much of value in CPU prices.

Lets all hope the Bulldozer rocks, it would benefit us all.

I've read it will beat the 980X at a way better price, cant remember exactly, but I thought it was a third of the cost. But you always hear random stuff before a launch. Have you heard anything on what AMD is doing after bulldozer?

It is all quiet from AMD front, I haven't heard a peep about Bulldozer performance not to talk about its successor. And indeed the engineering sample of the mainstream Sandy Bridge showed some very good results. And thats only the mainstream part, no doubt the real LGA1366 replacement highend SB will be even more impressive.

Referring to that GTX465, wouldn't it be better to just get the 470 or a 460? The 465 is loud and more expensive than a 460 with not very much difference in performance between the two. ASUS has a utility called GamerOSD that has a single in-game overclock option, so no messing with voltages or whatever (still haven't been able to really put it to the test, though, need new games...).

From all reviews I checked, a 460 beat a 465 in most tests and it also OCs really well.

If you can afford to get a 470, though, do so, but right now, the 460 is the best value for money card by far.

I went for the Gigabyte OC 1GB version with the fancy-ass cooler. The MSI Cyclone is also another good choice.

My ASUS 460 has a nice and quiet cooler, too. I think any of them are good enough to buy, especially if they're a custom PCB and cooler.

The Palit/Gainward cards have worse PCB and worse cooler than even the reference cards. I would avoid those.

I bet that's why they cost 30% less than the ASUS / EVGA ones

I'll give karma to you, if you can guess what device I've manufactured this little snirkle for. I'll reveal it after eight wrong answers.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
