Nah it generally is quicker to do most things than vista.

This tests the basics Uzi.

i see no change in performance or functionality over vista so far... anyone have any links or explanations as to why i just wasted a day doing that upgrade? if i wanted a pretty taskbar i'd switch to my macbook, which they seemed to have copied pretty damn well.
I like the way that dragging windows to the top of the screen maximises them and vice versa. That's a nice little feature.

similarly i must say that hovering over the smartbar and getting the 'preview' pane, which then in-turn either singles-out the view or switches to the window... is a neat little addition. reminds me of OSX a lot, though. but microsoft certainly cannot be criticised for making aesthetic changes to windows that are more... apple-tastic

I use that "snap" feature all the time for comparing two documents / generally viewing two things at once. Where you snap one to each side and they autosize to half the screen.

No idea why they made such a big deal about it, with TV adverts and stuff, but it's a nice little feature.

the snipping tool saves print screen->paint->ctrl v->crop.
i like the side by side thing too. (if you want to look at two windows at the same time drag each one to each side)
edit: too slow

I don't use the snipping tool, this little thing works great: http://code.google.com/p/zscreen/

Great for a forum-goer who likes to add images. Instant crop and automatic upload to tinypic/etc

type "snipping to..." into the search box on the start bar. press Enter

Also, someone told me that Vista had this tool too, it just wasn't advertised.

This.

I also find ZScreen to be much easier, because 90% of the time I'm snipping to upload to show someone something.. and the other 10% I prefer the automatic saving and zoom box.

Massively inferior to Command-Shift-4 in OSX.

But better than printscreen.

any sure fire suggestions for a reasonably priced laptop thats good for gaming on? we need a new one so Antonia is going to have this little Acer and we'll buy something new and more powerful. I've been looking at the Dell XPS 16 and i've used one, i'm impressed but it sits right at the top of our price bracket.

anything that beats the XPS 16 at that price or achieving similar results at a lower price?

No real point in getting a gaming laptop, they're usually terrible when you compare their mobile parts to desktop equivalents, and cost rougly 3x more than what a desktop would for the same performance.

If you're dead set on it, I don't think an XPS would be a bad one to get.

I have a studio XPS 16 with a 3670, it's nothing special. Runs things okay, I suppose.

Newest PC cost a lot less and is magnitudes better. Why you want a laptop for gaming, baggs?

I don't.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
