What are your thoughts on the BenQ V2420? I know it's a BenQ (inb4freezer), but I don't feel like paying twice as much for a equivalent Samsung.

Edit: Well, I can get a Samsung 24SW for a similar price, I think I'd rather do that
I've got the 2494SW. It seems to be way cheaper than all the other Samsung 24" and I dunno why. Mine already has 2 burnt pixels and I've had it 2 months maybe.

Hmm

How does 3D work on monitor-level... Does it take the normal video-output and turn it into 3D basically fucking up everything... Or does it require software transformation like that Nvidia 3D stuff...

I fail to see how a normal monitor can't do 3D just by software transformation

Uses nvidia 3D thingy. It renders games in 2x60Hz, using shutter technology.

Or you can turn 3D off and play games in 120Hz

I thought 3D was done by using blue & red spectrum of light and displacing them making them appear as 3D when you wear goggles..

Honestly, I can't see myself getting into this 3D thing before they do it without the need for goggles...

My laptop has a 5650 1gb

Spoiler (highlight to read):
From my experience it nearly matches the performance of my 4870 512mb (note laptop is 1366x768 and desktop is 1650x1050)

Not that old, but it was even utter shit when it released
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

What's so different about the new one then?

I still don't believe 3D is going to "stick" unless it is done without any form of goggles or extra equipment...

afaik there have been attempts by layering OLED panels...

When you copy paste, is it stored in RAM or hard drive?
I'm guessing RAM but wasn't sure because it's not working data..

Like the stuff you copy.
Does it store it in RAM while it waits to be pasted or what?

Sounds obvious to me...
RAM...

Why would it write it to the disc unless the system was going into hibernation?

I wasn't sure if it stored stuff in RAM that could be there for a long time.
And now I know.

It'll store it until it runs out of storage on the ram, then it'll put it on the page file afaik.

Well I don't know about the subroutines etc.

I guess it could get written to the disc if the RAM were needed for another application... I dunno lol

WWDC 2010 tomorrow.. Verizon iPhone/iPad? Some ppl are speculating because of AT&T new tiered bandwidth plan goes into effect Monday. Since you can be grandfathered in to the old plan the hope was a rush to go AT&T before the announcement.

Of course there is this. But Verizon might just be trying to avoid the same mistake McGraw-Hill made. Jobs is the grudge-ing type.

We will see.. on a side note.. Safari 5?

Splashtop is useless, windows boots nearly as fast and can do TONS more...

(Splashtop is the software packaged with most ASUS motherboards as ASUS' quick boot feature)

This is going to sound silly, but is there any way to put my computer (running Vista Business 64-bit) into a form of standby, while still being able to seed? But I wouldn't ask if I didn't I remember seeing something like that somewhere. Then again, probably saw people ask about it and the answers were all obviously 'no'.

My room is fucking hot and it'd be nice to put the computer in a minimal state at night.
