Samsung screens are amazing. They're like, the God's of the PC screen world. I work on Samsungs at school, 22 inch ones, they're awesome.

Looks just like the one at our school! Well they all look the same though, it just seems the same.

It's the same one as Panz and Finny have. SyncMaster 2233RZ. Doubt your school has 3D monitors

Except for, you know... high end.  They make nice high-mid end, but nothing on the real high end scale (under like $1k).

Anyone here use Handbrake to batch convert .vob to .avi? I had a queue of 5 items earlier today and my computer crashed after the first one. But then I tried it again and it went fine. Right now I'm about to go to sleep and I have a queue of 40 items I'd like to run. Is this risky?

Each item is 22~23 min long, ~800 MB being condensed down to ~175.
Are you overclocked? Could be unstable at load for long periods of time.
Nope, not overclocked.

Woke up this morning after having done a queue of 10 items that were 44min long and everything went fine. So I guess I shouldn't have any problems with a little bit larger queue.

Why are you using handbrake to encode?

The point of the picture was not the screen I've owned for months, it was the amp. Hence why, you know, it's the central focus of the photo.

Or whatever encoder is all the rage these days. Haven't really encoded anything in ages. I have loads of HDD space. When I have .isos and such, I just dump the stream into .mkv and call it a day. No need to sacrifice quality for size

lol, Handbrake is okay for encoding to xshit.  But for proper encoding to x264 its terrible.  It uses outdated and poor encoders and has a well documented feature of skipping frames.  For the lazy encoder its fine, but if you actually want quality its terrible.  Its banned from many places for encoding purposes for good reason.

I'm curious as well; what are the supposed professional encoders? This is all for my personal collection, not sharing anywhere, but it'd still be nice if everything was 100%.

Another irritating thing with Handbrake is it commonly has a problem where it makes videos unable to skip to certain points and/or cant fast forward.  I think recent builds solved this though.

Personally, I use

DGIndex - takes the VOBs and merges them, separating video and audio.
AviSynth, AvsP, Multiple AviSynth filters - takes the video and allows you to crop correctly, as well as de-interlacing and other options.
Lord Mulder's x264 GUI with techouse x264 builds (there are 3 or 4 popular good builds) - encoding the file from AviSynth into x264 mkv.  Gives many options on quality/speed, etc.
SubRip - Creates proper subtitles to be muxed into the movie
MKVMerge - merges the audio tracks, video track and subtitle files into the one mkv container.

Obviously this seems quite difficult (and is) at first, but after doing it 2-3 times its a breeze.

But unless you know what a fair amount of these are... not sure you need it.
