Well, lets see.  After Katrina N.O. was a war zone.  People robbing, looting, and were several days without food or water.
So the hurricane/earthquake leaves your closet alone since you have all your important stuff in there?

lulz tbh
You lulz but when you don't have electricity for weeks it's important to have activities for the kiddies to.. unless you enjoy insanity. It's those little things people forget. Prescriptions weeks in advance, pet food/shelter etc..

That you idiots actually think you'll ever need this shit.
Burzz and I both live in earthquake country.  We live within just a few miles of the largest fault in the state, and one of the largest in the country.  Oh, and we are well overdue for a big shaker.
I live on top of a fucking volcano island, your little fault is nothing compared to the Atlantic ridge.

Sure, there is the possibility that the stuff may be destroyed, but it's better to have the stuff and probably have access to it, than to do nothing and know for a fact that you have nothing.

Dogs are a useful thing to have in post-Apocalyptic Austalia.

Pre-Apocalyptic New York on the other hand, all they do is shit and eat.

And whoever mentioned having cash, thats a very good idea. Small bills for negotiating. You cant offer 10 when all you have is a 20, and expect change?

Ive got two small dogs, does that add up to a good enough dog to take with me? They're kinda useless but whatever, I guess.

Depends, are either of these dogs good with an unloaded shotgun?

Survival pack check list

Emergency disinfection of drinking water instructions

Here is a picture of a water drum dolly I made for emergency water.
The drum is 55-gallon food grade. The drum costs about $20.
Drain and refill every 2-3 months. You could go longer, but if you have the time and water, why not.

You should plan for a minimum 1-gallon of water per person per day.

Where did you get the drum from? I would easily pay 20 dollars for that, but finding it would seem to be the problem i wouldnt know where to start

I purchased it from a local who buys and sells them, but he doesn't ship out of state. www.arizonabarrels.com
Search for food grade barrels in your area. They are used for everything from soy sauce to coca-cola syrup.
Try a survivalist forum for your area. I'm sure you can find them, but they may cost a bit more.
Just remember for drinking water it must be food grade.

Walmart also sells some water storage containers. They are similar shape to the old gas cans people would mount on their Jeeps. They are smaller, plastic and made for water storage. They can usually be found in the camping area.

Not only are they great for disasters, but also helpful if city has to shuts off the water for awhile. Or you have a pipe break inside your house and you have to shut off your own water. You can still wash yourself and flush the toilets.

Mitch didn't you once tell us each of your families bedrooms has a loaded shotgun in the closet already?

What more possible protection could you need?

^good list

I'd add a basic set of hand tools.  standard and metric sockets and wrenches, various pliers and screwdrivers and driver bits, maybe even a few boxes of nails and screws.

A good advanced first aid kit with hemostats, scalpals, all that crap.  gallons of alcohol and hydrogen peroxide.  A couple dozen bottles of propane with a torch fitting and a couple electric sparkers.

Keep it all in .50cal ammo cans.  Ammo cans are great for everything.  I'd say you'd want at least 10 or 20 spare cans around. to hold whatever you need.
