Situation:

Turned my machine off last night as usual... My brother *just turned it on and it booted up to bluescreen* and wont turn back on again..

It gets past the XP 64x loading screen and then bluescreen in any safe mode and dosnt display long enufg to get the error message.

I have plugged a hard drive in with preinstalled OS so I have access to the drive and can browse the data on the drive, but i dont know how I can fix it from here. I am trying to see if you can look in the event log for that hard drive, but all i seem to be getting is the event log for the curent OS running.

Any advice.. Cheers as usual.

Fix one OS install from within another OS? I have no idea how I would do this.

k, well first you hit F8 and choose Don't Automatically Restart to find out what the bluescreen is.

If applicable, and if you have access to the hard drive, and if you have access to C:\System Volume Information\ and if you didn't turn off System Restore like a klutz you can do a manual restore.

If you don't have access to SVI get Bart-PE.

Copy Software, Security, Sam, System and Default from a snapshot folder in SVI to C:\Windows\system32\config. Rename them to their existing counterparts and restart.

chkdsk -r for good measure.

/standard bluescreen procedure 2009. 80% of the time, it works 100% of the time.
