im in love with this album... it swings from ambient, hazy-textured shoegaze... ethereal, euphoric waves... dissonant, screeching black-metal and noise... choiral guitars and wailing vocals... it has everything in one big mega-mix of awesome. such a great concept. also has a b-side full of remixes from shoegaze/experimental legends- such as this remix by one of my favourite solo musicians, Jesu (formerly the lead-singer of Godflesh).

furthermore i must recommend this again as one of the best drone albums of the year... each consecutive listen makes it better and better.

Wait for srs? I only mentioned them in EE Chats as a joke.

Albums are a fun little listen once in a while, more entertaining than listening to crap on the radio. But it's by-the-numbers and doesn't have much substance to it. Just poppy stuff that hipster kids listen to and then think they're underground because they listen to electronica.

i saw crystal castles live and it was literally some dirty-bum playing a gameboy whilst some skanky-whore screamed into a microphone.

they're fucking awful and the only people i know that listen to them are 17 year olds that buy NME and think they're 'kewl'.

...

they're not.

im just being honest.

it's better that you realize your mistake in considering them 'cool' and 'hip', and better you restore your sense of musical-decency.

Recently discovered a band from NYC featuring Jojo Mayer on kit.
They're called Nerve, dnb/idm stuff. Loving the use of effects by bassist John Davis

The more I like something, the more I want to share it. Isn't that what music is all about? Spreading the love? Or are you worried that too many listeners might affect the artist and make him take less risks?

it's not the 'underground' thing at all... it's the 'bf2s thing' im finding a bit of a fucking hassle. people nicking albums wholesale and then passing it off as some sort of cool-kudos pathetic thing; people coming on my last.fm profile and mirroring my listening habits because i guess it makes them 'hip' or something; people coming to my last.fm and copy+pasting my profile info verbatim to their own profiles, to carry the 'credit'. getting on my nerves a bit now: recommending music is fun, creating a clone-army of clueless nerds that latch onto your entire taste... a bit annoying.

Ah right, gotcha. I agree it can be a bit annoying to quietly recommend something to a friend or two and then have them go batshit crazy and start telling everyone in the world, acting like they're a prophet and a gift to humanity.

In any case, thanks for the recommendation! So much music I've got waiting to be listened to. This kind of holdup is unacceptable.

The first two minutes of this I listened to thinking, yeh its good, technically brilliant..But couldn't see why you rated it so much. Then I looked under the video and saw the "current sound of london" thing, and after imagining walking around a sunny London with it playing, I liked it a whole lot more. Regardless of the London thing though it's still good. It intrigues me how some people are so clever at making music, from a producers point of view. Kinda frustrates me too ><

EDIT- Just saw you posted a second one too, liking this one a lot more, think it might have something to do with the vocals and having a bit more "music" to it. Seriously, this guys production is fucking TOP notch. I am jealous.

cut-up, skippy samples and blissed-out keys... it's the shit. by 'the sound of london' i mean it's what the UK funky / future-garage / 2-step scene represents right now, now that everyone is over the wub-wub dubstep phase. seeing some real quality garage, funky, house and dubstep being produced now. this particular sketchy-skippy variety is one of my favourites. got a few solid releases by people all in the same vein... mount kimbie have just always been my favourite.
