Do you think public tax payer funded schools should be allowed to force students into wearing uniforms? It was forced unto my HS my senior year but seniors were spared having to wear them. In any case the reasoning behind it was that clothes were a distraction that led to poor grades and fights so the uniforms made everything fair. One of the major points agaisnt were cost, the things were expensive and if you didn't have them you would be punished. So what do you think about it?

I was at private school, didn't have to wear uniforms so far (2 years uniform free) after 8th grade, but going to public High School now as a Junior, and we have uniforms, so we had to run around to like every damned Walmart in the county because none of my 8th Grade uniforms fit any more and most were given away anyway.
EDIT: and that was just to get 5 days worth of shirts, holy shit if you wanted extra, you have to buy online, [sarcasm]all teh Mexicans bought out the shirts[/sarcasm], that's what one employee said when we asked if they had more.

Having been to schools with and without uniforms I can safely say uniforms offer no benefit to the students whatsoever.

Living in Holland, where anything formal or to do with tradition is punishable by death, I can say without doubt, I would have loved it if we did had school uniforms at high school. I've gotten totally fed up with being forced to look down another ugly and/or obese provincial Dutch girl's rear exhaust. That, and it would have dealt with Goths, Emo's, Hiphoppers and the rest of the popular teenage social groups, commonly associated with a complete and utter lack of style regarding individual clothing.

I fucking hate my school uniform. Id actually prefer if public schools here had no uniform regulations and you could just wear your regualr clothes.
They make us wear them so we can be seperated and be easly made out as a member of the school. But other than that, they are useless. A pretty shit attempt to make us look "presentable" when it just maks us look stupid. They tell us to tuck in our shirt tails and do up our ties and top button, but what difference does it make?

It doesn't have to be one way or the other, my school said that you had to dress presentably and in a manner that the school deemed appropriate or they could send you home to change.Lai wrote:

yup same I attended both the Catholic School and Public school ,and 2 diff. high schools, one public and one Catholic, but yea also got to say this those chicks who were in Catholic schools they were more open about their sexuality and they were willing to get it on like in 8th grade not kidding good times!!! Also went to a ghetto grade school and the chicks there (the black chicks) were very promiscuous also. You are absolutely correct, the problem comes into play because due to lack of responsible parenting, kids have no respect for each other. On a more mature note, it takes the pressure off the families who cant afford X jeans and Y runners, it puts all the kids on the same level clothing wise. Our students got the uniform changed slightly in that girls could wear pants due to the cold/rain we got a better a jumper, plus clip on ties became manditory due to some one nearly been killed when he's tie got caught in a drilling machine !

No school uniforms for me and I went to Public School all 12 years, but almost most of the mexicans at my school(about 50-55%)(1000-1100kids) wear baggy jeans and big tshirts, and im like what the fuck?

Uniforms help stop the whole class system at school, which is a good thing. One problem is that they're extra clothing which you don't really have a choice in, so are an extra expense for the family. Also, some uniforms look like arse.
But for lads in high school there is one benefit - schoolgirls. You know how you Americans have the whole cheerleader short skirt fetish thing going on? Its the same sort of thing

Ive been wearing uniforms for 13 years.

Worn a school uniform for 12 years. I don't think it should be required for all schools to wear uniforms or not wear uniforms, but just take it on a case by case basis. I personally like having a uniform, you don't have to think about what to wear at all, everyone fits in because you all dress the same and it gives you a sense of pride in you school (Although I'm from an expensive private school so I'm not sure how much pride state school kids have in their schools )
