Yup. It lists the University of New South Wales at 152-200... which says nothing to the fact that it's ranked 27th in engineering, which is what I'm doing.liquidat0r wrote:

As for overalll ranking.. The same website that I referenced before lists UNSW at 45th overall.
Since when is ANU the best uni in Australia?
For me. 152-200

All the comparisons are bullshit. Including subject specific ones. While I was there (although it started slipping a bit in my final year), my uni was ranked 3rd in engineering in the UK, just behind Imperial, in the Times ratings. When I got round to breaking down the criteria a bit my uni was only ranked so highly because they had a big temporary surplus of cash in the engineering department and spending is weighted very heavily in these ratings.
So it really had nothing much to do with the quality of the facilities/teaching staff, when compared to how much they could spend?

No. Oxford/Cambridge are maybe £3000/year - but that's in line with what other unis charge over here these days.Defiance wrote:
That's nice to know. Are private/'high-end' universities outside the US typically ludicrously expensive?
Also, consider that to becoming a proper doctor can take 12 years or more of similar tuition. The only reason they get payed so much is insurance and student loans, unfortunately both problems probably more prevalent in the US.
Socialism ftw?
I like getting cheap government subsidised services. It's not like there are super high taxes here or anything (I've just been working out my taxes, I get the 1st £13,000 tax free!), so essentially we're all getting something for nothing.
1 year of uni for 90€ - FTW

They were factors, but they weren't weighted any higher than spending. Don't get me wrong, it was a pretty good engineering department - but the fact that spending had pushed it up the rankings so much made me very skeptical of the way they assess these things. Education isn't something best assessed based on these silly factors. There are no criteria you could accurately gauge the performance of universities on.mcminty wrote:

If spending weighs heavily, it's no wonder there is no Icelandic uni on that list...Bertster7 wrote:

They get a big, big research budget.

Really? Because I never hear of it... Can't even recall it ever being mentioned except for when I was in Canberra for a week... oh well.Spark wrote:

I dont need a degree for pilot, its just that Id like to have some form of qualification. I spoke to some of the recruiters, and they dont let pilots do engineering degrees because of some reason, and there is this other degree for pilots in the air force and navy specifically (BTech in Aviation) that isnt open for army. So I had to go from a B Engineering (Aero) to BTech (Av) to a BTech (Aeronautical Engineering). However for that to happen I need to get selected in the YOU session for pilot, then pass the pilot selection board, then pass the ADFA selection board.
It might not happen, hence I might end up at UQ, or even Griffith

I've done Bach of Technology, it's pretty interesting and great if you like programming, etc.
I'd recommend it if you have any interest in writing software, etc.

I don't think mine was even on there O_O even though I'm fairly certain it's better than Kansas State.
It's eleventh. This obviously isn't ranking undergraduate teaching/focus, though, which is why its ranked lower than the other US universities above it.
(Not that I would really care about a ranking, anyways.)

You're probably not, but if your referring to the University of Washington in Seattle, all I can say is NAAWWW SSOONN. It has an æpic engineering department. One of the top choices for me, I can't be arsed to try hard enough or pay to go to MIT/CalTech and a college degree is only going to slightly help my CV. IT Jobs ftw.Cybargs wrote:
This ranking is soooooooo off. U Dub is such an easy school to get in =.= I'm sure it is wayyyyyyy shittier than NYU.
Although, with this surprising info on cost of colleges elsewhere, I'd like to look in to studying abroad.

Dude so many Asians can easily get in there. Probably their engineering department boosted their rankings but seriously, I know lot's of idiots that get in there.Defiance wrote:
