So yeah, I want a new monitor (note "want", I do not need, as my one is perfectly capable right now).

I want a new one because I want 1080p and an HDMI connection. These two are musts.

I currently have the Samsung SyncMaster 2032BW Pebble 20", and it's fantastic, but it doesn't have what I want. Primarily it's because I want to be able to enjoy the PS3 and Xbox360 at their best, especially with the new games coming out.

What price you ask? Well, somewhere in between £100 - £200 would be fantastic, but if you have a better suggestion for more, then by all means, tell me.

Currently looking at this.

Asus VH242H 24"

Edit - After paying closer attention, it seems to me that good 1080p monitors go above the £200 mark, so bin that suggestion. Just try and keep it below £260.

In during 200 post "Any Samsung that's within your price range" shitstorm.

Any Samsung that has the features you want and is within your price range.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I recently purchased T240-very affordable and a good buy for the money although colour wise my older 245B is still better.

The basic T240 is not HD and the T240HD is £300.

Wow, interesting.

1,000,000:1 Dynamic contrast, 2ms and 1080p resolution. It's also super thin.... Hm....

It has 1920 x 1080p resolution which means its FULL HD, just buy a DVI to HDMI cable and thats it, or you could buy the other one that has a HDMI connector http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-P2370HD-2 … B002DHS398

I don't want a HDMI to DVI cable (added to the fact I already have one) because it defeats the purpose of connecting up the PS3 to it, as I can't display it in full HD. I want an HDMI input because it's the best way for the PS3 to work.

I find it hard to believe a $200 Samsung has HDCP but a $600 one doesn't.

Methinks the FullHD badge assumes it.

HDMI uses the same exact signalling as DVI, with the exception of HDCP support. Unless the PS3 uses that, there is no difference between HDMI and DVI.

The PS3 uses HDCP.

I know it uses the same signalling as DVI, but I'd rather have a direct connection to my monitor than having to run an analogue and DVI through the PS3. It makes life much easier and the configuration options easier as well.

I don't think DVI can pass audio, that would be a difference.

No, it doesn't, but I can switch the Audio to analogue and use the other output from the PS3, that isn't a problem. I would just rather have HDMI.

I wouldn't touch this brand with 5 feet stick even if I had to. My brother got one of their monitors and it is total failure.

Sound. HDMI supports sound pass through and so does PS3, basically killing 2 flies with one cable.

My 1st LCD monitor was Ilyama (17"), cost a fortune and it has several defects-1 dead pixel and refresh rate is fucked up (you can see the annoying refresh lines passing up and down the screen lol). But I cannot judge this company tbh-it was one of the first LCD monitors available on the market for home consumers and...well its an old monitor.

Ilyama used to have quite a good reputation back in the CRT days. I have no idea what their current stuff is like though.
