it will prob be a 4890 or 5850 for me then, most likely the later of the two. Unless of course the 4890 takes a huge dive price-wise.

say hi $499

I'll wait a month myself and cash the 20% price drops.

Price keeps creeping up, I had an argument on the OC forum about pricing that spanned about 10 pages .  Come to think of it, pre oc cards are a bit of a waste, I did have a go with a FTW edition 285 which did manange a higher OC than the stock but nothing major.

Am very interested in the performance figures the 5870x2 will pull, and wonder what Nvidia are thinking right now, surely the 300 can at best hope to match what we are hearing of the 5800.

Hmm ... I wonder what the difference in performance between the top two 5000 cards is going to be. I mean, what will one have that the other doesn't that causes the price jump?

I'm gonna say more memory/faster memory/more output slots.

Apart from that I can't see much else they could put in it, unless one was more 'budget build' orientated.

SP count 1440 vs 1600, different memory and core clockspeeds. We are looking at ~15-20% slower speed (my own guess).

edit: wait did you mean the 2nd and 3rd fastest cards or HD 5870 and HD 5870 X2?

If the numbers in this thread hold up, than even with 20% less performance, the 5850 should still out perform the gtx285, for under $250:

I really hope the hype about these cards is true.

I mean the 5850 versus the 5870 (single GPU cards, not the X2s).

There is one thing I can say for sure about it, its gonna rape your wallet first, probably well over $599

Holy hell ... 5870 rapes the 4890 and beats the pants off the 4870 X2 ... WOW. Now THAT is a card. I'd still like to see where the 5850 would slide in. I mean, the 4870 and 4850 both use GDDR5 VRAM, so maybe only memory capacity (rather than type) and clock speed are going to be the differences? Can't see there being too much of a difference ...

Well GTX 295 still seems to be beating the crap out of this in quite many games. Even in this heavily AMD favoring AMD marketing slide.

Take the OpenGL results with salt, NV has been long time ahead in OpenGL and unless they got some superduperhacker OpenGL driver specialist in last months, that is bs.

where is the 295 beating the crap out of it? Only a few games there where the AMD is even or less? Pretty much across the board the AMD is kicking ass.

LP is 30% 10-20% loss in 4 games, tie in couple, and OpenGL results are pretty skeptical. Where is the 20% average over HD4870x2 (10% over 295)?

Remember the price is higher than 295 atm too. AMD is solely trying to cash out on DX11. As conclusion, the rumored 160% over HD 4890 rumors can be trashed.

Oh and marketing slide, its best case scenario against competitor (which can have pretty darn old drivers heh).

I just went onto Alternate Austria's website and noticed something ... the prices for the 4000 series have dropped like a rock! Like €100 off since I first priced them out at the beginning of the year! Unbelievable stuff.

The cheapest HD 4890 has been under 165€ for months now. ATM it is 150€ or less.

That is not real surprise as the HD5 will wipe the floor with the HD 4890. Even the cheaper models...

Absolutely unreal ... I can't wait. Fuck buying a 4890 for my new system in spring. This bitch is getting an HD 5xxx. Also found last night that a Q9400 is only €10 more expensive than an E8400 when buying from Alternate. How fucking cool is that?
