In 2003 George Bush made an appeal to Jacques Chirac for help in the Gulf War...on the grounds that he was fulfilling a plan to destroy Gods enemies.

The Canoe dossier wrote:

Reportedly, Bush appealed to Chirac as the leader of a Christian nation and said,

“Gog and Magog are at work in the Middle East…The biblical prophecies are being fulfilled…This confrontation is willed by God, who wants to use this conflict to erase his people’s enemies before a New Age begins.”
Chirac refused to help Bush , but did ask a theologian at the University of Lausanne to clarify what he was talking about.
Gog and Magog were mysterious/evil forces threatening Israel in the Old testament book of Ezekiel (chapters 38 and 39).

Chirac has confirmed that this phone call  actually happened in a long interview with French journalist Jean-Claude Maurice.

For more info

There were other reported cases of this after that event.

Secular Humanism wrote:

For example, a few months after his phone call to Chirac, Bush attended a 2003 summit in Egypt. The Palestinian foreign minister later said the American president told him he was “on a mission from God” to defeat Iraq. At that time, the White House called this claim “absurd.”

Recently, GQ magazine revealed that former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld attached warlike Bible verses and Iraq battle photos to war reports he hand-delivered to Bush. One declared: “Put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground.”
Few mainstream news services have run with this, and I was perfectly happy to consider this a hoax, but most hoaxes have a " mythbusting" counterpart somewhere on the internet. This doesnt seem to have one.

Obviously George Bush aint running the show now, so my point is :
Do the Republicans still have ultra religious evangelists running the show?
If so, should they be trusted to run the most powerful country in the world?

Pretty much, besides there has been experiments which more or less proven things evolve. It would be best if the religous groups just took McCain stance of believing in it but at the same time god did it.

I know that, reaper knows that, you know that. But I'm willing to conservatively estimate that 3 billion people don't know that.

The dog in your avatar was specially bred to be that dog, through the magic of controlled evolution. Just like all farm animals, crops, even vaccines, we've been exploiting the fact evolution is real for tens of thousands of years and growing what we want using it.

But still, people will tell you we shouldn't tamper with the process of intelligent design. lol

I don't know what this really has to do with anything... but.

They say that 99.9% of all species are already extinct, they also say that between 80-98% of all living species are unclassified and there are currently well over 1.5 million classified species on earth today.

That she was. The loose skin was designed to trap the scent around her nasal chambers as she tracks with her nose to the ground. She has more chambers/scent receptors that of a typical canine. 4x's as much. Most importantly hounds desire to track more than any other breed. I remember reading a story where a man shot a puppy because it had wondered in his yard after, his words, "I warned it". I was so pissed. The dog has an uncontrollable desire to track... that one hit me hard. The puppy actually lived and found a good home.

I posted this once before:

I believe the earth is billions of years old, not six thousand. I believe that life on this planet evolved over billions of years and not six days. Thousands of years ago people were curious as to the origins of life. They asked the people who were supposed to have the answers, the religious leaders. Back then those religious leaders did not have carbon dating or any of the scientific means that we have today. However they needed an answer. In ancient times the religious leaders held a great amount of power. If you gave the wrong answer, or one that was to complicated someone else would come up with a more attractive offer and you would be replaced. .. back to working the fields, no more power.
The stories of creationism were simply the best they could come up with at the time.

Did Bush go to Iraq to fight biblical enemies?
Basically to remove Israel's enemies, to threaten the rest of the region and to provide plum contracts for his buddies.
Its clear the WMD were a pretext, if he hadn't had them he would have found another.

A confidential record of a meeting between President Bush and Tony Blair before the invasion of Iraq, outlining their intention to go to war without a second United Nations resolution, will be an explosive issue for the official inquiry into the UK's role in toppling Saddam Hussein.

The memo, written on 31 January 2003, almost two months before the invasion and seen by the Observer, confirms that as the two men became increasingly aware UN inspectors would fail to find weapons of mass destruction (WMD) they had to contemplate alternative scenarios that might trigger a second resolution legitimising military action.

Bush told Blair the US had drawn up a provocative plan "to fly U2 reconnaissance aircraft painted in UN colours over Iraq with fighter cover". Bush said that if Saddam fired at the planes this would put the Iraqi leader in breach of UN resolutions.

And to answer the question, no - religious extremist should not be allowed to run countries - USA included.
This includes the loony Christians the Republican party depends on for a significant portion of their support.
There was another thread about this a while ago, and its pretty obvious the whack-jobs DO have the Republicans under their control.

If Repubs got in again, and the same goons are pulling the strings, theres a high likelyhood of more war for extremely dodgy reasons. Is it worth it? You never know where Gog or Magog will pop up.

No, because obviously all conservative Christians believe we should use our military to go after Gog or Magog.   How about repealing our right to vote, too, since we can't be trusted.

I dunno man. These guys (Cheney etc) were abit more clever than that. I just can't see them doing all that stupid God bullshit, there was more to Iraq than that.

Maybe they were doing it for Bush though.

This might explain the "bushisms" perhaps he wasn't tongue tied afterall, Maybe he was speaking in tongues. And to think we never ask presidental candidates whether they are resurrectionists that believe in the end times and these guys get to have their fingers on the big red button.

Obama might be a resurrectionist, though I'm not entirely sure what that is.  But he's a Christian, so it's possible I guess.  The Gog and Magog literature I've read seems to point to Russia, not Iraq.  Another important point is that the timeframe for the initiation of the end times is described in the Bible as known only by God.  There is nothing any man can do to bring it out.
