Has anyone an ATI 9800 PRO 128 MB video card and can post his video settings in bf2 and in the 3D tool from ati?
I just got one from a friend, but i am wondering why i get performance problems on the same settings like he. I used Z-Defrag RAM and found out, that my RAM is high enough and CPU also.

So, what may it be, what slows my game down.

My Settings:

1024x786
All Settings low or off  (I'd like to have at least middle terrain, middle texture and low shadows)
sight: 100%

tested on empty server wake island and can fly jet without perform problems, got 20-40 frames/sec (MultiRes)

i also tested 800x600 (other settings as above) on 24/24 karkand, works well, around 30 frames/sec all time

=> How far can i go with Settings and what would be max Players on Servers? Are there possibilities to improve performance of my video card in ATI 3D Tool?

Edit: I use Omega drivers..

i just looked on the package:  AGP8x

Maybe it is disabled in the options? If it can be, where can I find the option?

And on which servers did you play? (max players)

Edit: I use Omega drivers..

I'm running on a Radeon 9700 Pro, all settings on low, and my game runs pretty badly at first. But my problem is that I've only got 512MB RAM, which is definitely not enough. Damn game pauses and jerks so much while objects load to and from the hard disk. I get 40-60 frames per second, though, according to Fraps, but that figure is meaningless while my hard disk is causing so much nuisance.

I got the second from right...

Only 128 MB, that will may be the main fact i think, won't it?

I just tried something else

Another Friend of mine has ATI 9800 PRO 128mb as well,
He has 1024x786@75Hz all settings middle, but Texture and Shadows high, antialiasing turned off and sight 100%
His system:  1024mb ram (my was 768) and intel 4 3000 mhz (my was amd 3200+)
He can play on 64 player servers :[

I just tried this settings on an empty wake island server and oh my...

I was chinese at the airfield.. battlefield got problems when i was between the houses and i turned around there was only 1fps. After 2 minutes i had managed to get to a plane, just pressed "up" and "w" without seeing my lift off. When I was about 150 feet high, i can fly with 30-40fps.. But when I was near the carrieror the airfield with the houses: freeze, freeze, and my jet crashed :[

And remember: It was a 0/32 server without ANY other person..

I really don't want to know how to play on a 32/32 karkand with these settings..
But what I want to know is why my pc sucks so damn

Any Ideas?

2 Gigs Kingston ram
ATI Radeon x300 -- I know this card sucks, but i can run everything on medium and AA on x2 and not lag at all
Intel P4 2.8 GHz
I dunno if i have a sound card.. lmao

I have the exact same card, 128MB.

Basically running 800x600 everything on low first then a few mediums at 100% distance.

I think the major issue is you don't have enough ram in the computer. I improved greatly going from 512 to 2G.

Also get ATI tool for that card and check the memory on the card see if it's a1 a2 or something like that if it if the last two digits are b something your screwed.

Anyways get ATI tool and overclock the memory on that card to about 355... that help out alot.  Currently have mine running at 409/360.

Problem with the 128MB version of the 9800, it's right on the cusp between Low and Medium:
It runs low very well.
Or medium which is usually playable.

Over clocking the memory alone makes this card rock at medium settings, especially if you turn off dynamic light.

I never overclocked anything. Is there a guide, especially for this card?

I'm not going to buy new RAM the next months, is there still a big advantage of overclocking? And what's about overheating?

i got 9800pro 126mb

and have it on all low/off with 100% view distance and 1024x768

i'd like to at least get my texture to med but it lags like mofo already lol dam low speed 512 ram

Well the big issue is the memory chip type. Find out which memory chips you have and which core.

This is a pretty simple seach in google to yeild a few decent articles...

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/101

try looking for r350 vs r360

Overclocking is always overclocking but considering you can buy this card now for 70 bucks your not risking much, and you generally don't wreck the card unless your doing something crazy. Keep the memory below 355 and core <405 and you probably be fine.

Basically all you need is atitool it has a built in overclocking tab...

If you run the memory at <360 your not really overclocking you just upping the speed to manufactures specifications, same goes for the core (R360 core is 412). I don't have memory coolers on mine and I never get a problem with artificfacts at 409/360, I have decent case cooling. On fan in front one in the side and two in the back, case temperatures are generally in the low 30's.

I was getting some artifacts at 415 probaly due to heat build up. Reducing it back to 409 I never had a problem.

Basically it's worth doing a little searching for yourself.

I simply change the frequencies everytime I play then back to stock when the computer sits idle. What really helps out this card is memory, the GPU is just bonus frames.

Considering I'm still running under the specified limits of the core and at the manufactures recommend memory speed. I don't really consider this a true overclock since I didn't have to up the voltage.

Besides I didn't want to push the card too far, I'm getting the details that I want on medium with decent res and frames ~45 what was the point of trying to push 50 frames?

Oh thanks, ill try tommorow and tell you :] ( but i remember case teamperature was between 45-50 in summer after 2 hours counterstrike )

but we'll see^^

Just one more^^:

Better omega drivers or original ATI drivers? Tried both, but both the same for me

I think they are the same... I'm currently using the latest omega drivers no better no worse.

I just don't like the .net required for what 5.10 and above??? That made me go omega no other reason.

Great dude but that doesn't really say much...

To what levels have you overclocked core and memory did you flash the bios?

Also are you running low or medium settings, textures view distance....

I can run everything on high flawlessly at 1600x1200 resolution 100Hz with a decent frame rate if I turn down the view distance to 30%. Cant' see anyone but what you do see looks great, it also lags when anyone gets close or shoots with these settings, see what I'm saying.

I found out i havent r360 but r350 :[

I overclocked with ATI-Tool to Memory 354 and Core to 408..

But I don't know how to use the Artifact tester and what it does

Can anyone help?

bah i think i have both my clocks in the 500 + range...

but i ran it on max settings on 2048x1536 everything on high full...

but just let ati toll do that max overclock thing.. it will keep overclocking untill it finds artifacts.

also dont overclock unless you can monitor your temp.... also you might want to up your heatsink (http://www.xoxide.com/vgacoolers.html)

My advice on the 9800 Pro 128 mb Card video settings.

Play at 800x600 so that even in the most haywire crazy explosive events it will not studder.
Play at all Medium settings. You aren't missing much and you will have better FPS. Put Dynamic Lighting and shadows down to low if you are still having issue. Of course you can put Visual range to 100%.

With your current onboard memory and your RAM you will have some issues on 64 player maps. You will zero issues on 32 player maps. Increase your RAM if you can will help.

You may want to use a driver cleaner (http://www.drivercleaner.net/) to get rid of all video drivers that may be lingering. Then do a clean install of Catalyst or Omega. Don't do one and then install the other. Always use the driver cleaner to make certain it's a clean install. I would use Catalyst personally on that card.

After that all you have left is to make certain you have no applications running in the background sucking your RAM away.

I think you would be happy with the above advise. It might not be the best but it will absolutely playable and smooth.

Congrats dude!!! :-)

408 on a r350 core is nothing to sneeze at and 354 for the memory you must have the good stuff!!!!

Sure you can push it a little higher but I wouldn't...

Why? B/c you've basically brought that card up to the level where you can play medium at 1024 or 800 fairly well. Upping the core of memory any further will just give you a little better frame rates but won't IMHO give you enough performance to up the setting further.

For reference purposes the R360 core is default 412 in the XT version. However the XT version has a better heatsink then again it also runs at higher voltage. Personally I wouldn't go further than were you have it without a better heatsink.

If you did want to try to get a little more... you would need to do the following.

Better heat sink and memory sinks
Flash the bios to up the core voltage

Even if you do this you might not get more than 415 on the core and 365 on the memory.

Also the money inverstment to gain isn't that good. I'd rather sell the card and use the money plus what you would have paid for a heatsink and memory sinks towards a new card.

How can you tell if your getting artifacts... trust me you will know if you get artificats. Big blocks on the screen during game play parts of the screen which don't refresh, real scary.

Basically I was getting artifacts at 412 and 362 after about 15 minutes of play, backed the settings off a little and it's 100%.

Enjoy.
