The Mainboard on my dad's computer has 4 USB-Ports. Since I've reformatted it, they behave like they are USB 1.1. They aren't, before reformatting they worked with the usual USB 2.0 speeds.

It's a MSI K8N Neo4 Mainboard with an nVidia nForce4 chipset. Drivers are up-to-date.

Can anyone help please?

Well, the obvious question, I assume you're using 2.0 compliant devices?

Now I know MSI is crap, but 5 years ago, when I bought this thing, I had no idea...

yes, they are compliant. Do they even make others anymore?

Oh, the OS is Windows XP on SP 2 or 3 (Not sure...)

hrmmm... afaik, USB (2.0) has always been natively supported by the OS..

well, since XP anyway.

Do you get the "This device could perform faster if connected to a USB2.0" message?

yes I do, but no matter which port I use, it's always horribly slow.

Have you touched BIOS?

I don't think that's true.

Since XP SP1 as far as I remember. There are occasionally conflicts between the drivers provided by the manufacturer and those provided with XP SP1. Be sure to use the XP drivers NOT the manufacturer drivers. Or it could be a BIOS issue, as suggested - but I doubt it, more likely to be OS/driver related due to it coinciding with a reformat.

I would just keep searching for newer drivers. Bios and Motherboard. Start here: http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloadindex
