Matrix isn't shit... the part where Trinity dies is fucking tragic! Although the timing of the ITV advert after that sequence is pure comedy.
The philosophy behind The Matrix trilogy is actually really interesting and stems from quite a lot of classical concepts. 'Tis rather good.

There is a lot of pseudo-intellectual wankery in there, yeah, but for every annoyingly over done and poorly acted monologue/dialogue, there's also a pretty profound statement that actually goes deeper than the crappy action-movie premise. Agent Smith always has the philosophical nuggets ready to hand out, whereas Keanu Reeves' typically shit acting and Morpheus with his spiritual-bullshit keep up the corny end of the equation. The scene with The Architect in the second-movie is a favourite of mine when it comes to overcooked script-writing that borders on the farcical. And hey, no shit, cinematically that is the closure of one of the best film trilogies ever. Like it or love it, The Matrix is definitely up there with Lord of the Rings and Star Wars in recent years for epic-grossing, boundary-pushing and genuinely good movies. There's a lot of money-spinning franchise-movies out there, like all the Harry Potter nonsense, and it's easy to see the difference when you get to the final closure of a properly well-done trilogy and have that 'Well... wow' moment.
Definitely has faults and criticisms, but it's hard to downplay the influence that the films had on Hollywood and cinema afterwards. I mean, technologically how many fucking films were using that bullet-time and CGI shit? Nowadays all of the top-notch films use CGI heavily, which was before considered nowhere near up to par to carry the plot or perform any serious function. How many films started pushing more deep, intellectual-engaging premises with proper, mind-stimulating themes? I mean, I know a lot of films thinly-wrap a half-decent idea beneath an allegory or something, but films like The Matrix pretty daringly confront a 'big' thing head-on. I just think its had a pretty wide-ranging effect... and it's always good to rewatch something that came out when you were 14-15 and to rinse some nostalgic vibes!
