I'm building myself a new pc...ish.

No point in going DDR3 if you aren't going i7. Replace that mobo with a P45 or something (P5Q Pro for awesome), get X 45nm dual and some decent DDR2, and you've got a GAYMEN RIG.

Make the PSU a Corsair HX520 or such. The graphics card is ok.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Was thinking of upgrading bits when I have the moneys.

It's actually quite nice tbh.

Anyway P5Q - E8400 with Freezer 7 pro cooler and that card is fine 4/6GB of 800Mhz/1066Mhz OCZ or Corsair. I had a very similar rig and it was amazing:) This was before i7.

Dont need a case or hard drive, already have those left over from the pc im currently using, just need a new mobo, graphics card, PSU and RAM really

Heres the current specs:
Shitty gigabyte mobo
Hamster in a wheel (p4-3.06ghz)
3gb of shitty ram, think its ddr2 533mhz
trust 500w psu, blew some circuitry on the mobo when i put it in.
seagate baracuda 160gb 7200rpm

can find other specs/more detail if needed.

I don't think that cooler is enough for the quads. Mugen 2 will be enough. Freezer 7 pro for dual core.

But that AMD rig is better bang for buck atm than intel counterpart. Do you absolutely must have Intel?

change the cooler to Mugen 2, F7P is not enough for quad.

And jsut get the Corsair HX450W or HX520W, the corsair actually gives out more power in reality and is much better quality.

Edited my last post to include the changes, is there any way to get a DDR3 motherboard and ram for the processor, got about £125 left but i could stretch it a little.

90% sure its 32bit so wouldnt support all 4gb

You really want to get 4GB at once tbh. And I see no reason for SLi board; when the GTX 260 is not good enough anymore, we have next gen DX11 cards out already.

I'll get some more in a few weeks when ive got the money, would rather get a slightly better mobo with the money ive got left over, still recommending that Gigabyte one? Got around £100 to spend on it

If you want to spend on something, invest on GTX 275.

yes, Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4P is very good mobo. And get the 4GB kit of ram with it.

and all together comes to around £500, gonna have to upgrade the RAM at a later date, probably along with the OS when i've got more money to splash out ( yay £30 a week part time job )
