Poland of Western EU? Hey, we took half the Poles, the other half went to the UK. You can't blame people for leaving Eastern Europe. They've settled in quite nicely actually - a couple of buddies are actually marrying Poles.

There's some not-bad Country, Western, and Punk (quite a lot in the case of punk).

If we're talking about really early blues there's significant overlap with the development of country and western. It's not all bad...Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, etc.

A) Brit rag newspaper with a chip on its shoulder. Of course there were instances of Nazis hiding out in Ireland, as there was in Brazil, Argentina and indeed the US, where many of the top German rocket scientists helped send man to the moon. It wasn't government policy, which was the allusion.

B) 7 troops. Hold the press. UN peacekeeping capacity - i.e., no firing under any circumstances and watch people kill each other. We have some in Chad and had some in Lebanon before also. UN peacekeeping capacity is not regarded as breach of neutrality. Surprised to hear we have troops there though.

C) Those are what are known as 'turncoats' - people who emigrated to the UK and joined their army. They are not the army of the Irish Republic.

I'm also calling your Nuclear Energy into question as it was a Frenchman who discovered it, two Germans and an Austrian who first achieved Nuclear fission with the person who is credited as being the "father of nuclear physics" being a New Zealander.

Also the telephone was invented by Alexander Graham Bell - a Scotsman. The reason this is claimed as an American invention is that Bell got a US patent for it.

In general I'm in agreement with Cameron Poe - countries don't invent things, people do. The telephone's a good example, it was invented by a Scotsman who lived in America and Canada, (dying in the latter.) America itself did nothing to invent the telephone. Nuclear power wasn't even the work of one man or one country. It's possible to say that a country gave something to the world but they're more superficial things. Therefore, New Zealand gave the world the All Blacks and Peter Jackson films.

That's really the nature of invention though.. I bet half the people in this thread didn't really come up with the first idea for anything.. it's just how history credits them, and that is why we have patents.
