I had many weeks like that at uni.
You can buy a weeks food for £10.
10 x can of baked beans ~ £1
3 x loaf of bread ~ £1.50
10 x tin of tomatoes ~ £2.50
Loads of pasta ~ £1
Garlic + Onions ~ £1
Bacon ~ £2
Tea + Milk ~ £1
Then get some vegatables and fruit somehow. That'll keep you alive (even if doesn't offer much variety). Then spend the rest on beer.

Nah. It's easy. They grow places. I had a lot of them growing myself, which made it extra easy.liquidat0r wrote:

Drunken night raids on allotments, that'd do the trick....
Nor are fruit and veg considered essential for the average students diet....

Aldi do fruit and veg for 49p. Like vine tomatos, apples, bananas and stuff like that. Pretty good.Bertster7 wrote:

I got two decent sized racks of lamb there for £3.
Go to Lidl you can get 1Kg of peaches for £1.49
Yeah, it's properly kick-ass. Morrisons is good for drink, they have 24 can of Carlsberg for a tenner just now.Bertster7 wrote:

Meh, I get all my drink from France. Much cheaper.SirSchloppy wrote:

Also having a house in France (it's my parents really, but it's empty most of the time and I have a key) makes for excellent dirty weekends with various girls. They love it, it's fun, it's REALLY cheap and I can do a cheap beer/wine run at the same time - I find the cheapest place over in France tends to be Sainsburys.
Jesus, you're insane. I try to manage on £50 a week for food and still struggle, and I'm hardly dining on Waitrose's finest. I do try to keep some vegetables and fruit in the mix though, otherwise all the meat and sugar would wtfpwn my digestive system.SirSchloppy wrote:

£50 a week?! Christ, I definitely don't spent that much - and I eat pretty well.

Where the hell do you shop? And do you buy from the Finest range or something? That's ridiculous.
Damn, I need a job.
I don't have a job, I just buy the 'average' food for meals that I like, and try to cook with fresh ingredients every night, as well as having plenty of snacks and fruit-juice to get through during the day. I spend quite a lot on Evian / San Pellegrino too, at least one a day, and I am foolishly sinking £20+ quid a week on top of my food budget for sparkling-rose wine for the missus and whatnot. I probably need a job, too, considering all the toys and extra shit I want to buy on top of the crazy living costs.

I managed 4 weeks on a fiver a week. It's easy.

Actually I suppose if I bought everything fresh I would be getting nearer to £50. I tend to get a lot of tinned stuff, if I can: It keeps longer, is cheaper, etc. And I buy things in bulk too. So a lot of the ingredients of my meal won't be included in a week's budget.
And I'm not including alcohol/mixers

stock up on teabags. buy stuff in groups, and cook with your mates. live off toast and noodles for when your a bit hungry, and have a massive pasta dish every night. Apples help too.ebug9 wrote:

Toast(ies) and noodles are a Godsend, yeah, and I always make sure I have my two bags of Granny Smith apples each week. Works a charm.FatherTed wrote:

You need to plan your buying better.Uzique wrote:

I spend less than that and always make sure to have good ingredients around. I have regular excursions up to Fortnums and Borough Market for all the things you don't really find in local supermarkets. Then buy all your fruit and veg from local markets and it costs maybe 1/4 the price it does in supermarkets.
It's easy to eat cheaply and well. Just requires a bit of planning.
