The secret to bbq is to marinade the meat for up to 24 hours, then slow cook for one hour in kitchen oven at 115 degrees.
Baste again with the sauce and then a quick char over wood or charcoal. Dried spices called for in your marinade of choice will actually impart more flavor if applied to the meat when it is on the heat, a few minutes before serving, and makes for a sassy, faggy little flare when people are watching you cook.

Way too much fucking work Alex. Here's my method.
Get meat. Put crushed garlic and pepper on it if you want, I won't do it for you I'm not your fucking mother!
Put on BBQ grill.
Squirt with oil, (cause it catches fire and everything goes up in flames which is awesome.)
Turn over at 1 min mark. Repeat lighting everything on fire.
Remove.
Eat.
My BBQ cooking is very violent.
