I should have a god damned right to know who is calling me. The only reason to use caller ID blocking is for telemarketing and prank calling. Hardly legitimate reasons.

The worst part is you can't use anonymous caller rejection on cell phones for god knows what reason.

Someone said that the way around this is to forward your number to an 800 or 888 number and look at the caller id there without picking up the call.

But I don't know how to do that.

Why does it matter? It doesn't take much more effort to answer the phone than it does to check the caller ID.

Nor does it take long to tell telemarketing types to go away.

Yep...that's what voice mail is for...or just screen your calls with no caller ID.

If I get a call from a number, even if its unblocked, and its not in the my addressbook it goes to voicemail.

If you answer it and say hello you'll find out who it is anyway

If telemarketers are calling you, answer the phone, find out who it is, take note of it, and then call your local Congress member.

Why?  Because telemarketing on cell phones is illegal unless you already do business with the company calling.  They can be fined pretty heavily if you can prove that they called you.

It a emancipation thing, it allows insecure women to stalk you by calling and then hanging up when you answer the phone.

You can have your cellphone carrier automatically block anonymous caller ids, just call customer support and ask them to enable it.

No you can't. I called Sprint and they said they don't support it. Some google searching showed me that it's not supported on the other carriers either. Landlines support it, but for some reason cell phones don't. I cannot possibly fathom why not.

@Brinson Yeah, some companies still call. Also, that doesn't stop prank callers.

That's a shame! I know a lot of people who don't answer masked calls. I hope you don't have that problem

Anyway my friend had a Nokia a few years ago and he could see who was calling even though they were masked calls. After the call he goes to view it in the "Calls" list then he would click "Options" then go to "Reveal caller number".

Wish that was a feature on my phone, though I must admit prank calls are fun

It is getting even worse with the VoIP numbers out there, where these people can get any number they want, in any area code.  Now, they don't bother to block their number. since the number is pretty random, and the area code is basically fake.

As to it not taking a lot of time, you either get a computer giving you a recorded message or a person on a script, both of them taking as long as possible to get to the point to keep you on long enough to actually engage in the conversation before they tell you what the call is even about.  And they call ALL the time.  I get maybe 2 real calls a day on my home phone.  I get around 15 fake telemarketer calls.  The problem is that you never know when the real calls will be, and it is particularly annoying to let the phone ring long enough to let the machine take care of it.

If they call and you have nothing better to do, waste their time. Play games. The longer the person is on the phone with someone who's not gonna buy into their shams, the more money the company is losing.

They are often telemarketors and if not they can always leave a message.
