i mean, my whole point is that people are faux-upset over carrie fisher dying because they think that princess leia is dead and they can only perceive the loss in some weird fantasy-fiction framework. they think a beautiful princess enlisted in the fight of Good against Evil has died, as opposed to a woman with a boatload of mental illness and a long-term drug addiction whose heart stopped. there's a weird group delusion and hysteria.

for the record, i'm sad prince and leonard cohen died. in an abstract sense of 'sad': knowing it's a loss. a person as talented and individual as prince doesn't come along in mainstream music too often. and i liked leonard cohen's music quite a lot. but his last album was an incredible goodbye record, he was old, it was okay. i'm not upset or posting any expressions of public grief. it's a shame prince died young because of america's widespread opiate abuse issues.

3 literary figures have died in 2017 so far and i am seeing people on twitter, academics with PhD's, people who knew these thinkers in real life, serious respected writers, all of them saying shit like "it's only january and 2017 has taken john berger ..."

this is the dumbest fucking thing in a while. i mean, one of the recently passed took his own life. pretty sure the year didn't 'do' anything.
