Most people catagorise themselves even if they have no idea where they stand. I remember one of my frinds fiercly defending his status as a conservative. After some digging I discovered that he meant he was into conservation and the environment.  People do get that dumb.

That's due to the fact that when it was founded the idea was for it to be fisically conservative and fairly socially liberal.

The counter-terrorism laws introduced under Howard are a bit gimped on the 'socially liberal' part. Got the fisically conservative bit right though.
Actually no it's just 'cause Australia is fucked up. C'mon, your $2 coin is smaller than your $1 coin, what the fuck is up with that?

You see the problem with that poll is that the majority of moderates are actually fairly liberal.... the whole concept of liberalism is any departure from traditionalism or conservatism. It's about being pragmatic - which is generally a trait that many moderates would have - hence the fact they haven't described themselves as conservatives. I call myself moderate. I'm sure you Americans think I belong in the liberal bar in the poll - all this poll says is that a lot of conservatives are more eager to attach themselves to a silly label, demonstrating their entrenched views and lack of ability to view the other side of the coin and take a pragmatic approach to things.

Charts..lol. Have we already forgotten how inaccurate these things are? Election season was only 7 months ago. No one saw Huck coming out of the Iowa caucuses on top. I lost all faith in these polls. They are very suspect in my eyes.

Still doesnt change the fact that the chart is not technically wrong.

Nor does it change the fact it can double as toilet paper.

IDK, speaking from personal experience it seems roughly accurate. Conservatives seem to always be the majority but theres always enough "moderates" to outnumber them. Speaking only from personal observation of course.

These things are constantly changing. Majorities have switched a few times in our brief history. It's just are we more moderately liberal, or moderately conservative. If you are speaking strictly from experience.. the last few decades or so then yes, I agree. The parties themselves have fully flip flopped each other on some positions. .. lolz for the dixiecrats.

Some people use these poll as the gospel. That is what I am protesting.
