All it takes is one guy to put an orange triangle above your head
The spotting stuff was never an issue. It only lasted for a second or two and went away completely if you went out of LOS. BF2 UAVs and/or actively spotting commanders were a million times more hazardous to your health.
killed so many players just by spotting them and shooting them through entire forests
the movement is slow so you can't get to cover quickly
cover is not nearly as good as in BF2 in the first place
being spotted doesnt mean youre on a map, it means youre behind someone's crosshairs
recon get personal UAV mode
the graphics of BC2 make it much harder to spot hidden/unmoving enemies
the game rewards camping in pretty much every way.
gotta agree with lucien here, on Valdez it's not uncommon to get 7-8 snipers camping up top that bluff/hill/w/e. Countersniping them is a bitch since they spot any enemy wookies immediately.Lucien wrote:

Then clearly we had very different experiences. I never had issues with campers. Hard to camp when the building you're sitting in can be blown up so easily.Lucien wrote:

When I stopped playing the only real issue anyone had with the game was the engineer class and the overuse of Carl Gustav's. The weapons and classes were balanced quite nicely otherwise.
So, what your real problem with the game was and still is that you were simply bad at it. No shame in that. We can't all be good at everything we try. But to blame the game itself for it when millions of other people had no real issues with it is rather silly, no?

That was a map design issue, not a game design issue. Same thing can be said for that one tropical island map where the offense starts with two blackhawks. It was really easy as offense to get bogged down on the map. Half the time I only won because I AT4'd the boxes from across the map.Trotskygrad wrote:

Umm, it's a matter of game opinion. How can it not be personal? We all desire different things. We're not arguing numbers here, we're arguing emotion. Of course it's personal.Lucien wrote:

hope your pilot dosen't get slugsniped
whether or not the game rewards camping is not a matter of emotion, lol
Name an FPS that doesn't reward camping to one extent or another? Also, define camping. Because by most definitions snipers are campers by default.Lucien wrote:

Nah bro, it's just because you were bad at BC2. 'Cause you know, BC2 was totally a skill-based game.Lucien wrote:

of course BC2 isn't the only game that rewards camping, it's just the one that does it a fucking lot.JohnG@lt wrote:

camping in BF2 was really not effective for instance
Well we could begin with BattleField 2, the game most of us want BF3 to be like.JohnG@lt wrote:

Oh, so BF2 didn't have campers? It didn't have snipers? It didn't have claymores? It didn't have untouchable medics? Maybe we were playing different versions of the game or something because I seem to remember having more 'wtf' moments playing BF2 than I had in BC2.TrashBlinD wrote:

Question for those that are so adamant they want BF3 to be like BF2: how much of your time would you say you spent in aircraft?

Not saying BF2 didn't have campers, because it did, I'm just saying it was terribly ineffective especially against skilled opponents. I don't think I've ever seen one of those baddie snipers camping prone on a hill/crane being a threat to my team.
bf2 had massive campers.....

Isla Innocentes. Actually, plenty of ways to quickly dominate the first two sections of the map.JohnG@lt wrote:

At least a couple guys. Get it armed, smoke grenades, motion sensor, and then a mortar strike.
I never got killed by snipers more than a handful of times per map in BC2. It was also super rare to ever see a dedicated sniper with more than 3-5 kills at the end unless they were running around with a VSS or slugs. BC2 was a game where you had to be in the thick of the action to do much of anything. Why? Because most of the maps had built in curvature that required you to keep moving up to see anything. Were there some stupid choke points like the beginning of Port Valdez? Absolutely. But as I said, that was a map flaw, not a game flaw.TrashBlinD wrote:

Yeah but you had to be uber quick to pull it off. Usually if the first rush failed you had to AT4 it downIlocano wrote:

Again, I'm not saying BC2 was perfect by any means. It, like any other FPS, had its share of flaws. I just can't stand the rose tinted glasses people have on around here when it comes to BF2. The game was a shit show when it came to vehicle dominance, overpowered medics, and maps that were almost entirely linear. I'll take destruction 2.0, weaker vehicles and balanced classes any day of the week.

i am going to have to agree. the whole concept of 'spotting' is a bit ridiculous in a pc game... i can see why it's important in a console environment - with smaller teams, smaller servers, and the whole aiming-with-a-controller thing meaning you could use a visual aid. but really there's no excuse for putting a massive 'AIM HERE!' target above a player's head - even through foliage/walls - for like 3 seconds. that's way too much time on a PC. snap your mouse to and kill. i do it all the time... it's ridiculous on vietnam. with the AK or the M16 you can just tap-tap-tap 3/4 rounds in the vague direction of a spotted-triangle, completely blind firing, and you'll normally be rewarded with a random kill. no skill to it whatsoever. i'm not sure i'd say it's game breaking but it's definitely frustrating... it just doesn't need to be there.Lucien wrote:

The irony of guns, is that they can save lives.
I didn't really care for snipers in BC2 either but you brought up the issue so I adressed it.
BC2 rewarded camping because of it's terrible game mechanics that made it a CoD-style first to shoot wins everytime game. All you had to do was find a good camping spot and anything that showed up on your screen was an easy kill.
