Youtube doesn't manipulate the site... The view-counter is always behind, it sometimes takes a day or so to catch up...

It's a bug that has been there since about 2008.. it's not part of a conspiracy theory...

It's not a bug, it's how YouTube works. They even explain that somewhere.
Basically, they give you the first ~300 views for "free". (You can press F5 yourself 300 times actually.)

After that, your hits are getting monitored and filtered with Google's mighty Data Kraken power, so you can only get one hit from the same IP address per day. And they apparently can detect most known proxies and claim to have other tricks up their sleeves.

I think they arbitrarily set that limit to ~300 views, so that videos don't sit at 0 views for day until their monitoring/filtering phase is over.
That means that a popular video like BF3 will have this highly noticeable discrepancy initially.

I'm gonna stand out from the crowd here and say I fucking hated the Iron Gator. It was too cramped, too confusing to navigate, the helicopters were useless unless you like raping one spot, getting to the gator on the boats was fucking impossible, and the whole map was generally boring.

An the "rare cases" that they speak of is highly understated, because they do it every time.

It was blatantly obvious during TF2's Saxxy award thing, where people were posting spamming their videos everywhere to increase their views. And everyone's video was frozen at ~300 views.
After this freezing period, you will indeed get all valid views from that period added, so expect that the BF3 video will suddenly have ten thousands of views tomorrow.

I think we've got different opinions on what constitutes to a bug. Reading that, it does indeed make sense, and I can see where you're coming from, but the view counter doesn't actually display how many times the content has been viewed. I can see the point in having the freeze time, but they should really add another counter so you can see what the view count is at, artificially boosted or not.
