I was sent an email today from THQ with a new game video. Space marine. At first looking at the video l thought it was going to be some sort of expansion pack for DOW II. However its saying its a first peron shooter.....

3rd person shooter, not 1st.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is a third-person, over-the-shoulder action game with RPG elements.
Shame it's not coming to PC.

One thing it's not doing though is a PC version, and Dunn gives the impression that in the same way THQ didn't feel Dawn of War was a good enough fit for console to warrant a port, it doesn't see Space Marine as a game fit for PC. "It's like, if God of War was on the PC, what kind of an experience would that be?" says Dunn. "And I think it's our idea that it wouldn't be the ideal experience. You could probably make it work, but it's not where the beat is and where the strength of the platform is, so instead of washing the game out so it's appropriate for multiple platforms, it's about building the game to the specific platforms that we want."

Hopefully its better than Firewarrior.

I also hope the Space Marines in it are closer to the fictional 'movie' space marines, rather than the ones they actually have in the table top game/Dawn of War.

That means a single space marine can take out hundreds of enemies without needing any weapons beyond his fists, acid spit and titanium-strength teeth.
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.

Looks pretty bad. relic should stick to RTS games.

Also they made an rl rhino as a promotion for DoW2. Pretty slick

Looks interesting, but I was never really fond of the unconventional/unrealistic and cartoony, bulky model of the space marine armor.

Classic '80's Sci Fi.

Protip:-

Their bones are as hard as the armour they wear and their blood instantly coagulates if they are wounded.

Woo squeaky clean thread again.

So relic is behind this one... Hmm...

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully they can do for TPS what they've done for RTS with games like Homeworld and DoW.

This game is actually coming out on PC and in a couple of months. It also looks pretty good.

It's multi-platform.

Pretty much everyone I know is getting it.

There's also an 40k Alien Swarm style game getting released, too.

Cannot fucking wait.

Something to do with people seeing how much they could spam while mods ignore it or some such. Then it got hit by a liquidat0r bomb.

Shame it's just fucking PSN/Live.

Surely it's not hard to just throw it on Steam, FFS.

Yeh, pretty dumb not to throw that on Steam. It would get tonnes of sales.

I like the new regenerating health system, encourages you to continue to being in combat rather than hide in cover until you recover.

Normally, I'd tell regenerating health to piss off, but it makes sense on a genetically-altered human encapsulated in god knows what kind of power armor. I hope hard difficulties allow you to tone the rate down a bit.

The health regen system in this game is different. In order to regenerate health, you gotta kill enemies; unlike other health regen games which require you to get out of combat and in cover. This new health regen system, as I said, encourages you to continue fighting. I officially dub it Vampiric Regeneration

A closer term for a space marine would probably be 'fanaticism' or some fancy faith-related thing.

Also, relying on melee regen just wouldn't work vs Tau.

I believe Ranged works too, and you are wrong about tau. Tau have extreme difficulty in facing a single space marine as they are tough enough to withstand enough fire to close in. In videogames, they just degrade them for balance reasons.

Uh huh. Which is why tabletop space marines scramble to close the distance vs tau before they get melted on the spot. Looks to me like if you were fighting Tau instead of Orks in this game, there would be no end to dealing with fire warrior ambushes from building windows. Regenerate from that. Hah. Also:

Sounds like a really fun game :p

Orks are the enemy because Orks are awesome. On the other hand there is Chaos, the most boring as they are space marines but evil. I think that was more to do with the MP part of it, I just hope it wont be like DoWII and as soon as Chaos show up you end up just fighting them because it really is boring fighting mirror images.
