That's video proves shit all tbh. Paramedic pushed the cop more than he pushed him from what I can see. Other than that we rely on what the various parties say and that's always going to be one sided.

I'm just asking in general.  When you pull over someone because they failed to yield the way for some other call, do you arrest them or ticket them?

On a side not, if you're still reading.  An unwritten rule about EMS/Fire Departments/Doctors/Nurses  unless they fuck up so severely they harm another human being, you don't involve an arrest or ticket.  If its something as minor as a traffic infraction.. pull the driver to the side and chew some ass.  Why you might ask?  When a cop gets shot/stabbed/fucked up, who saves the Cop?  A goddamn EMT/Nurse/Doctor.  IF your house is burning and you just gave the engineer a ticket for driving his pumper truck 2 miles an over the speed limit.  Kiss your house good bye.

Sweet Chocolate Covered Jesus I'm tired.
That's really really a good point right there. Seriously just on this note the cop should be fired, he's now at risk for not getting proper care if he gets hurt.

They said the Dash Board cam shows something different, but they won't release it, which makes me wonder how it's getting tampered with right now.. The Video provides evidence that a police officer was preventing a patient from getting proper care.

The video tells you very little other than it happened. What astonishes me is that it did happen in the first place. Surely there are laws/rules/guidelines about not stopping an emergency vehicle whilst they are responding to an emergency. Here the ambulance was responding to an emergency, the police car wasn't - therefore surely the ambulance has priority?

In any case, obstructing a paramedic responding to an emergency is an offence (in the UK at least, dunno about US). Therefore the cop is breaking the law by making him pull over - unless there are extenuating circumstances. Of course we can't see if there are extenuating circumstances, because there is no video of that available. I would suspect there were not.

Thanks for the insight S3v3N.

You did well explaining the steps of an arrest but not so much commentary on the why he would arrest the guy, or pull him over, or the generally insane demeanor of the officer.

I see this resolving in one of 2 ways:

1. the prosecuting attorney or court will throw out all charges and everyone just goes back to work.
-or-
2. The Officer will get a slap on the wrist or suspension due to conduct unbecoming / not following procedure.  The medic probably works for some privatized company who will not back him up because he's nothing more than an "employee".  He will will be charged with resisting arrest, found guilty and lose his job.  He will never work in this field again because he now has a record.

Okla. bill making assault on paramedics a felony approved

Article wrote:

Apr 29, 2009
OKLAHOMA CITY — Both houses of the state Legislature this week unanimously approved a bill to make an assault on emergency medical providers a felony offense.

If Gov. Brad Henry signs House Bill 1360, the maximum penalty for assault on medical personnel would increase from a year to two years of incarceration. The maximum fine would remain $1,000.

"Paramedics have a dangerous job," said Lara O'Leary spokeswoman for the Emergency Medical Services Authority. "Oftentimes, they struggle with patients who have had head injuries, overdosing on medication or something that causes them to be violent. ... Hopefully, this will enter into the minds of anyone who thinks they can get away with attacking a paramedic."

Fourteen paramedics in Tulsa and Oklahoma City suffered serious injuries from attacks by patients in 2008, according to EMSA. O'Leary said she didn't know whether the bill would deter attackers, but she hopes paramedics will feel lawmakers are taking seriously the safety of first-responders.

The bill defines emergency medical providers as doctors, residents, interns, nurses, nurses' aides, ambulance attendants and operators, paramedics, emergency medical technicians and members of a hospital security force.
An EMT-B (Emergency Medical Technician - Basic) isn't a Paramedic.
An EMT-P (Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic) is a Paramedic.
Only takes 110 hours of classes to get your EMT-B, or about 1 month of Army combat medic (68W) school.
The EMTs in the video were probably EMT-P, or Paramedics.

I'm just baffled as to why a police officer would try to arrest an ambulance that was transporting a patient.
Sets the police department up for one mother of a lawsuit if that patient has the slightest ill effects due to that delay.

the women in the bandaid box had a case of heat exhaustion, from what I've read.

I'm sure the Paramedic started an IV.

Yes but at no point did the officer ask what the patients condition was (eg how critical etc) For all he knew there could have been someone with a gunshot wound, someone having a heart attack or someone that had a car accident.

and the cop knew that before pulling him over?  i don't care about his use of force, he's an impotent, sociopathic peace officer, it's to be expected.  what surprises me is that he pulled over an ambulance.  you don't fuck with the guys whose job is saving your dumb ass.  it's professional courtesy.

apperently everybody skilled over my extremely long post.

Wanna Know how I can tell it wasn't a Life or death emergency, just from the video?

Keep in mind 3 things

A) I'm a Volunteer Paramedic
B) I'm a Volunteer Firefighter
C) I'm a Former Active Deputy Sheriff turned Reserve.

What is it about cops in the south? here is another one where someone actually died.

I guess they don't teach people to think down here. Either that or they have candidates submit to IQ testing and only pick the retards who will follow orders blindly.

S3v3N --> my guess is that the lights weren't on and the ambulance was only transporting the woman. Still no excuse for delaying her arrival to the hospital. The person's need for medical attention takes priority or you get consequences like the above video. Even heat exhaustion can be deadly where there are underlying complications like diabetes, CHF, old age etc. Unless the cop was a doctor he should have STFU and escorted the ambulance to the emergency. I don't know why that wouldn't standard procedure written in stone for every police department in the country.

I've seen video of professional officers who do act immediately to escort people to hospital and when you see that you know that guy is out to protect people. I really don't know what these other clowns think they are doing, but they should be doing it in another profession.

that's my thought on it too, they weren't using lights or siren.  from a post written by the medic from the link i posted, it says:

"Also please note that in most cases, only the most critical patients are transported with lights and sirens. In addition, I do not have the option to run lights only. Please do a little research on the affects of running code one with a cardiac patient."

It sounds to me like they were transporting non-emergent (no lights/siren) due to trying to keep the cardiac patient as calm as possible. (its very well know to not stress or excite cardiac patients in distress).  "I do not have the option to run lights only.  that is probably referring to the law that states ambulances must always use a siren when running with emergency lights on.

also from his post:  "the patient had an episode of syncope followed by chest pain with hypertension. This was not heat related as has been stated elsewhere".

sounds like they were driving non-emergent and failed to yield right of way to the officer, and then were pulled over for it.

Good points but NONE of that actually matters, you just don't pull over an ambulance, especially for something as petty as failing to yield.

I'd have thought ambulances would be above the law in most cases, since driving fast/not yielding results in lives saved.

Plus the drivers know what they are doing. If the cop pulls this guy over, next high speed pursuit he might as well pull over fellow officers.
