At least one picture shows an American soldier apparently raping a female prisoner while another is said to show a male translator raping a male detainee.

Further photographs are said to depict sexual assaults on prisoners with objects including a truncheon, wire and a phosphorescent tube.

Another apparently shows a female prisoner having her clothing forcibly removed to expose her breasts.

Detail of the content emerged from Major General Antonio Taguba, the former army officer who conducted an inquiry into the Abu Ghraib jail in Iraq.

Who the hell lets somebody take pictures of them raping someone? So do you think it's a bullshit claim or do you think it's true? Still release the photos?

Spreading freedom and democracy eh? This is much more than a few 'bad apples'
And there is a whole lot more which wasn't photographed.

Release the photos, or it will drag on a whole lot longer.

Its a horrible thing, true. If a solider was raped by 15-18yo, would you riot as well?

If this is true, it's total bullshit that we allowed it take place. We're supposed to be civilized. These people are in a prison for a reason, but rape and sexual torture are barbarous and wrong. We'll see what the pictures tell us when they're released.

Yours and all the others inconsistent and selective outrage would be quite amusing if it were not so ridiculously tragic..

And this is an unprovable, unquantifiable assumtion, that you take as pure fact.  I have no doubt there were other instances than the ones caught on camera, but I do not think it to be as prevailant as you hint at and assume.  And, having been there, I actually take it as a personal insult to the honor and integrity of me, the units I was with, and my fellow veterens.  It is due to remarks like this (and others you have made for the last few months) why I no longer take any argument from you seriously, and I put you in the same catagory as rammunition. This is just the one that ticked me off for the last time.

On topic (and now ignoring obvious prejudice of others here) these are despicable acts, and it will be most humorous when the vidoes are used to convict these sickos.  Nobody claimed these folks were angels, but it would be interesting to know if these were from regular army, army reserve, or national guard units.  Having been both national guard and active duty, I have noted the differences in discipline.  Reserve and guard units can have members whose... habits may go without notice, since they are actually not with their units in civilian life most of the time.  Habits that may have been noticed in active duty units.

There have been lots of lapses in active military units over the years as well.  Whether it was neo-natzis proliferating in the 82nd at Fort Bragg or the Crips and Bloods dominating the units at Fort Lewis, there have always been discipline issues in the military in any unit.  This does not make them authorized, or mean that the illegal activities they may conduct are condoned.  The important part is that justice is sought under the UCMJ when these violations present themselves.  This must be done to show the service, the american public, and yes, the media, that while the military is not full of saints, that they are able to police themselves and hold the service in the regard it is due, and not treated like the scum they are often portrayed as.

Wouldn't it be something if Cheney were involved in some of this on one of his "he's at an undisclosed location" days.

I blame Cheney, the pics were probably for his titillation and were kept in his man size safe along with his dominatrix gear and his gimp.

Well I'm sure if something as bad as this what Dilbert suggests had of been going on you would have known about it...

Did you even know about the rape and water boarding?

I'm outraged by the fact that the Americans in the photos raped people while they were acting as agents of the American government, wearing uniforms with American flags on them. They raped people in America's name. Doesn't that make your blood boil?

The assholes who sawed off people's heads didn't act in America's name. They should be caught and locked up forever but they didn't damage my country the way the prison guards did.

Many were willing to enlist to fight the terrorists because of the inhumane treatment of prisoners and fellow US citizens.

Maybe they deserved better representation by those Americans at Abu Ghraib?

No I meant what is a person to do about the injustice at hand. I love to watch privileged occidentals choke on their spoon fed news (not singling out san4 per say). Not sure what the shock is, we are all savages deep down.

Edit: Assuming all of this is true (which is very plausible), for all we know someone walked in while they were filming: Iraq War Porn

+1, thinking of it as a criminal matter and not like it was the will of the military. So do we "riot" against the accused? Or just hold a trial.

Well what about that American soldier that was just convicted of murder?  Look, whenever you put 150,000 people in 0.01% are going to be bad.

What's going to be portrayed in the media around the world is that we condone this shit, which could be further from the truth.

I mean, shit, Saddam and his son's were killed because they would do these kinds of things.  Whatever happens its going to be bad for the soldiers still in harms way.

Lets just see how ape-shit all the extremist Islamist go.

It's the less moderate and those who were friendly to the US you should be more concerned about. It's their support that is more likely to be affected.
