GRID fps problem.

For some reason, when I play GRID, after like 5-10 seconds of the race my FPS will hit the floor.. and I'm talking single figures.. It'll be fine, ie 40+, and then 7 or 8. Sometimes it'll snap back up to 30-40, and then straight back to single digits. I know my computer can handle it, because some races are fine, a good 40+ frames, and I pass on systemrequirements.com .. it's just a weird bug, has anyone else had this problem?

EDIT: Also whenever I tab out, the game "Has an error, and has to close".

Likely some races have much heavier textures. Your graphics card loads data to its memory -> fps takes nose dive

edit: and what driver are you using? if it is not 9.5, I suggest you go get it.

edit: and is your CPU overclocked now or not?

Nonono it's not the races.. For example, the very first race you do, I've done it multiple times. First time I ever did it, it was completely fine, no fps problems at all.. but now when I play it's all gay.

Yeah, my CPU is o/c'd, but only at 3.4 instead of 3.6.. as 3.6 was a bit unstable.

How do I find out my driver version again?

Turns out I'm on driver version 7.14, which came with my graphics card Forgot to update.

EDIT: Shit I just downloaded XP-32 driver.. does it really matter? I'm on 64 Vista.

It's doing it again

But not so much.

Something else maybe worth a mention: Even the menu is low fps. Surely if it was a texture loading problem, the one frame that gets rendered behind the menu should be fine, I hardly think a menu could bring fps down.

It's not my hardware, it runs fine when this bug doesn't happen. Seriously, I was just guessing at the FPS, but I'm getting well over 90.

Can't check temps because everest costs and Rivatuner is being a bitch, but I doubt it's that anyway. The bug can happen, then it'll be fine for a lap, then happen again.

and what settings you have? last time I read a review, HD 4670 did 40 fps average at higher IQ.

Turn your settings to lower. If the problem disappears, its your hw/ati drivers.

Oh wait it doesn't cost. Always assumed it did

Downloading now..

EDIT: It happens at all graphic settings. All. I lowered it to 800x600 with no AA/AF and it still happened.

FYI the menu on GRID is 3D, being rendered just like a normal race. You can even peek to the sides if you modify your controls

Are you running shit in the background? Settings, specs too. I doubt youre getting 90 FPS with the highest settings and say 4xAA with that card. Also I know if a car runs into the tires on the side of the road and moves a bunch of them it can lag like crazy

I have tried GRID for myself and I can confirm that there is a massive slowdown problem that may occur occasionally with this game. DiRT has the same is but on a smaller scale.

I have SP1 and superb hardware sooo.......

SP2 is out now. Tried running catalyst A.I. Disabled/Standard/Advanced to see if that makes any difference? I used to experience random slowdowns on older cards because they ran out of vRAM. Can't say if its the same you you as there's no specs & settings

SP1 did the trick. No slowdowns whatsoever, I usually got it every race, now I've not had it for at least 20 races.

Apparently "high" graphics isn't max, only had medium shadows and 2xAA amongst other things. Still, when on full tilt with 4xAA I was getting 50fps .
