I'm not too sure about the specifics in other states but I know that around here, in CA, there's relatively a fair amount of jobs that don't really require a degree in something to be good at it. End tenure and implement a technical track into the school system. Not every kid is interested in academics. Some kids are much more mechanically or technically inclined, and there needs to be more workplace education available at the high school level.
That way... less kids will dropout, and they'll get to do things they actually like or have a talent for, which sets them up well for a technical job.
