What do you make of it? Personally i think it's being blown a little bit out of proportion, but what's been going on is still wrong.

Here's a lovely little table i found on BBC for the 07/08 figures - Labour were a bit trigger happy with the plastic methinks.

My local(ish) MP's were fairly middling on that, but wtf at MP for Falkirk lol.

Post up.

This is my personal MP, but i've never even known the blokes name never mind seen him.

I'm already disliking my bloke though, just from this.

I do think that this has been blown completely out of proportion, seeing as how its been going on for many decades, why is it only now a "big problem"? As far as fuck ups go though, i'd much rather that my MP took more money that he should do rather than mess up something important like war or the health service.

Its outrageous, its good the media have got hold of the figures.
It has been going on for decades, but been getting steadily worse.

Some of the claims are quite funny. Claiming for the cost of cleaning their moats, maintaining their helicopter pads and paying for their husbands pay per view porn.....

Someone there claimed 4p for a plastic bag.

Easily the best claim!

Nope.

Claims for second homes was what started it all.

TBH, it's all a big fuss over nothing. The whole thing has happened because MPs get paid salaries that are sub-par for what they do. They never vote to increase their pay because it is too unpopular with voters, therefore expenses are used as an income supplement. It would make the most sense to increase MPs salaries massively and to put heavy restrictions in place on expenses claims (currently they don't even have to provide receipts!) which should increase overall transparency and not drive everyone with talent to the private sector.

A lot of the expenses are legit like one of the ones the BBC was bitching about was a trouser press and an MP refurbishing (modestly) his London flat for the first time in 20 years.

However the ones that are for peoples person lives such as cleaning their moats, maintaining their helicopter pads and paying for their husbands pay per view porn, etc are taking the piss.

The worst thing is the fact that it isn't illegal to blatantly lie about which is your first or second home. Claiming on one form that one house if your first home then claiming that another is which allows you to massively profit. I would call that corruption tbh.
