And that Walmart battery was no exception to being shit, it comes from a long line of it.  This one was actually a warranty replacement I got 2 months ago that I got for a battery I bought a year ago(kept dying) to replace the first Walmart battery that came with my car which had also kept dying and was already a warranty replacement for another Walmart battery under the previous owner of the car.  I don't know how good other versions of Everstart batteries are but 4/4 turning to shit(this last one not even jumpable) for size 65 batteries means I won't buy from them again this time or really for any other car ever.  The one-time warranty usage policy on them also means you have to buy every other battery when one goes bad, the only reason my dad bought the 2nd one one when we found it our first was one was a bad warranty replacement was that we happened to have it right there on the counter thinking we were gonna get a warranty replacement, then found out we weren't but it was cheap enough at ~$100 I think and we were right there at the register

I think I might finally move onto the Optima RedTop, I've heard really good things about them, a guy with a 94 Grand Marquis(pretty much the same car) that helped me out with installing a Police Interceptor driveshaft a year ago while he was visiting his in-laws here said he ran off his RedTop for a week without an alternator

you don't need an optima.  avoid batteries from walmart, costco, any big box stores, and any parts stores. they all source the cheapest garbage they can find and slap their sticker on it.  Then they run you through so many hoops when the battery craps out that you just give up and spend more money or simply go away.  I'm a fan of Interstate batteries.

Is there something wrong with Optimas or do you think they're just overpriced?

they're finicky.  and only really necessary in HD situations.  we put them in police cars and sometimes abulances.  occasionally in serious offroad trucks but most vehicles don't need them.  save your money.

This is what I got to drive last night without the digi-mud decal:

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/42/2010_Ford_F-150_Raptor_--_08-26-2010.jpg

My friend's dad got it for him as a present two years ago after he got out of rehab, he let me drive it last night though cuz he was drunk and swerving badly and realized it.  I think he got the 6.2L(411HP) option too, the thing accelerates just unbelievably fast for a vehicle of its size and handles steep curves just like straight road, really makes me wish my car's suspension were in better shape with the police springs and shocks so it could handle like that.

Sounds like your friend needs to go back to rehab.

Yeah it's too bad that when you take them off-roading they tend to bend the frame at where the bed meets the cab. Happened to a lot of people, and for most Ford says off-roading this vehicle isn't covered by the warantee. Kind of stupid, considering thats all they talked about with this truck.

I guess I should've mentioned he was in rehab for heroine and not alcohol, lol

Yeah I saw that in the wiki article about it, some of the things Ford does seem incredibly lacking in the common sense department.  He'd never go off-roading in his truck anyway

Yup lol.

Ford - "Hey, let's make this bad ass truck, show it jumping in the commercials and off-roading, but lets not make it capable of handling all that. THEN, when the customer comes in to complain about broken shit, lets tell him it isn't covered since he went off-roading! Brilliant!"

My RedTop battery came today and it works great, I've never seen the volt meter so high, I just gotta shorten the alternator wiring so it fits inside the looming without so much slack and then my charging system will be perfect

How often do you guys recommend getting oil changes? My Mazda 3 just hit 4200. Retailer recommended every 6K, just curious if you guys do it more often.

It seems like it's that way for all car batteries nowadays.  I've read about it and they say it's because the prices of virgin lead have kept going up since 2005 and so they started to use shitty recycled lead that doesn't last nearly as long

The guys on the Crown Vic forums said these are the best:

http://www.odysseybattery.com/

They proclaim 99.9% virgin lead sure enough but at $320 for a group 65, it's just not feasible

just check it every few weeks. engines will have certain mile ratings, but you can't discount a leak, and running out of oil in a modern engine can be catastrophic. same as your tyres and washer fluid, check it every odd week or when you wash it, and especially after any sudden extreme/quick change in weather or a long drive.

I usually do oil and filter at 4000-4500 miles. Mostly city miles.

Optima continues to give less and less warranty too.
If I remember correctly my first one had 6-year replacement.
Then they went to 3-year replacement, 3-year prorated.
Now they're 3-year replacement.

They can't be any worse than those awful Walmart batteries I was using before.

I feel like a lot of people think I made a bad decision by going with Optima or something.  I got it for a good enough deal at $161 and apparently the shit I was using before was just too poorly made to hold up in at least Group 65 usage.  I understand they're made by the same manufacturer but with different levels of quality and this is a higher up model as far as that goes that I didn't pay too much more than $150 for.

I don't think you made a bad decision. I just don't see myself buying them again until they make some changes. They make a good battery, but for the cost it should be a great battery with a great warranty. I think the last Optima I bought was around $150 otd. With the Optima I had to take it to the place I bought it from and have the receipt, other Optima dealers wouldn't recognize the warranty. This was a issue when the battery died at night and the car was needed early the next morning.

He should go back on drugs, go to rehab and get more free shit

That's so fucking ridiculous. 'Here! Have a brand new pickup, you just successfully unfucked your life from something you did in the first place!'

Giving the keys to about the largest and most dangerous vehicles money can buy to someone with ongoing substance abuse problems is retarded.

On the same subject, wasn't there an SUV a while back which bent if you jacked it up?
