I'm having this problem. iTunes simply wont reconise my iPod Touch.

The only thing I did from last time it did, was updating iTunes to the newest version.

Apple FAQ isn't any help.

I get that problem sometimes also. Have you tried a different USB port?

Can't remember the specs, but I'm running XP.
It didn't come with any driver CD as far as I remember.

Yup, no matter what port I choose, I hear that noise in Windows saying that I've connected something, and then my iPod starts recharging, but it doesn't show in iTunes.

After some quick googling, it seems that most problems are either because the iPod is "jailbreaked" or because the USB cable is shit and needs to be replaced.  (Most large retailers should sell an equivalent)

As seen here, the user with the problem had it fixed when he purchased a new cable.  Others commented that sometimes the cables are bad right from the get-go.  I'd suggest trying to charge your iTouch with a seperate charger/AC adapter, or just purchasing a new cable.

Either way, good luck, and nice PC specs.

Update

Okay, so I've tried another cable (finally found it).

Same thing, itunes can't see my iPod, but it recharges.

Hmm... maybe try a reinstall of itunes?

Or you could just use winamp to sync it.

I've lost count on how many times I've reinstalled it.

Whenever I try winamp, it installs fine, but when I start it, a message pops up saying windows closed it. No reason given.
