It would be nice to get rid of nuclear bombs. Considering in other fields of military the United States would have the upper hand right now. Though how would you know for sure if a nation completely got rid of them? Look at Iraq we had to practically force our way through to know for sure if they had them or not. Also the scientific knowledge is still out there in developing a nuclear bomb. I think it would be best to know how to counter a nuclear bomb for any real safe measures.

Also I hope we get to recycle the nuclear material for scientific purpose.

Then again just eliminating ballistic missiles wouldnt be a bad start, you'd still have free fall bombs and cruise missiles, but those are easier defended against. Anyone know if this push it meant to keep them out of the hands of terrorists or keep them away from nation states?

I don't hope we get rid of ALL of them, just highly decrease our stockpile.

Don't we have enough right now, even after all the disarmament, to nuke the world ____ times over? (someone fill that in who knows)

If there is peace why do you need nuclear weapons?

Because peace is inevitably a temporary state. Just like war is inevitably a temporary state.

Possible Alien threat, maybe we are keeping them when we go offworld in the future?

If we don't get rid of all nukes why massively decrease? Probably cost more anyway to get rid of some that won't make a difference.

Probably could nuke world over 20 times is your answer.

We do, but other countries have them as well like Russia and Pakistan.

The US needs to be disarmed because when the economy collapses and were all in ruin, the world's richest will be worried that we the people will start firing nukes at their private islands and mansions.

I can see the day coming when financial aid to the US will come with the strings of nuclear disarmorment... Putin must be having a wet dream.

It's like a measure of a nuclear country's 'epenis'.

Nah seriously though, it's because they get better at designing them occasionally so they go through another round of building better nukes but they rarely, if ever, discard the old ones.

uhhh yah.... being ridiculous was the point. Unless the US has an utter economic/currency collapse like the USSR did after their 10 years in Afghanistan then the world financial help package might have huge strings attached. Time will tell, but for right now I was trying for ridiculous because its ridiculous to think that the US could be forced to accept a world currency and nuclear disarmament, right?!

BTW don't mistake my comment for something that I want to see happen, I think both things would be a disaster, I'm just throwing the hypo out there.

If they keep the peace, why are you so worried about N Korea, Iraq, Iran etc etc having them?

Surely the more countries with them will keep the world a much more peaceful place. In fact because the US has so many why don't they just give like 10 to every country and then we'll never have any wars again.

Less nukes, but bigger ones. Kill off this ludicrous idea of 'tactical' nuclear weapons, and recognise their one and only purpose - for wiping a country (or, at least, a big part of the country) off the map. Permanently.
The paradox is only a conflict between reality and your feeling what reality ought to be.
