PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh police say a man wearing a bulletproof vest opened fire on officers during a domestic disturbance call, killing three of them.
Police chief Nate Harper says the motive for Saturday's shooting isn't clear. Friends say the gunman recently had been upset about losing his job and that he feared the Obama administration was poised to ban guns.
The three dead officers are Eric Kelly, Stephen Mayhle and Paul Sciullo III. Kelly had been on the force for 14 years and the other two only two years each. Another officer was shot in the hand and a fifth broke his leg on a fence.
The gunman, 23-year-old Richard Poplawski, was arrested after a four-hour standoff.

Another tragedy. WTF is happening to my southern neighbor?! This guy is not making a strong case for the anti-gun control groups he "supported"

Props to the article for pointing out a positive aspect;

According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, 133 law enforcement officers died in the line of duty in 2008, a 27 percent decrease from year before and the lowest annual total since 1960.

My condolences to the victims and families; no one should have to die doing a job.

That being said, this is far less vile a crime than the 13 random gunned down yesterday. Not because he killed cops, mind you. It is less vile because as far as we know no random, civilian persons were murdered. No house full of children as happened here last week, and yesterday in Oregon.

There is a lot of financial pain out there. I am terrified of the world my children are growing up in. Our constitution is being abandoned and big bad scary things like socialism and nationalization are being discussed as reality.

It is understandable that some will snap under the strain.

Sooner or later president Urkel will find time to address the gun rights issue, and it will not be pretty.

Sadly, there will be more stories like this, in an ever increasing pace, as people become dejected and hopeless over the economy and Americas prospects.

Trillions to banks while millions go jobless, businesses shutter their doors and people lose their homes.

oh my.

well i think idiots who cant handle the pressure of real world struggles shouldnt own guns. if this keeps up, and like u predict, escalates, then i fear the worst: national guard martial law in major cities within a year.

Honestly, your "right to bear arms" is BS bc cowards cant be mature enough to realize that the world aint fair, and just bc you can legally own a gun, it doesnt mean you should.

how many killing sprees of 3+ victims these 2 past weeks alone? 50 or so?

Shit happens, deal with it, dont grab your "high powered rifle" and gun down dozens of people bc YOUR life got a bit rough.

from what i've read this guy was dishonorably discharged from the Marines.  legally, he shouldn't have been in possession of firearms.  they need to track down the source of those firearms and convict those responsible with manslaughter and accessory charges.

Why dont the fucktards just shoot themselves... selfish evil bastards... and it's not the guns... The guy in Pittsburgh could have jumped in his car
and drove into a crowd of people... Same with the douchenozzle in Binghamton who shot other immigrants... and he shot people who helped him previously...He could have used numerous ways to accomplish his cowardice goal...  His family said he was acting erratically...
Hey stupid family...why dont you try and get the guy some help or alert the authorities that he is acting bizzarely... even then...people will still do crazy stuff...

im fucking sick and tired of people who keep defending guns by saying shit like you did, nothing personal Cat, but you know that that is a BS excuse.

guns are easier to kill ppl with. drive your car into a crowd and you will most likely kill 1-2 ppl. go in a room and open fire with decent aim, kill 13. the whole "guns dont kill people" thing is BULLSHIT. GUNS are a means of killing. period. GUNS are made for the sole purpose of killing. and you cannot deny that. be it animals or people. GUNS kill, and that is what they are designed for.

Yeah the majority of people who own them are responsible adults. but when those seemingly "responsible" people decide that life is unjust to them and they arent mentally strong enough to resist snapping, then you get this shit.

Agreed.

America, you get really angry you take a gun and kill everyone around you.

Australia, Ireland, England, you get really angry, you take yourself to a pub and drown your sorrows.

tbh

OT: its horrible, really, these 3 cops die because some whack job was having a tough day.

a gun is just a thing.  it has no intent, it has no responsibility, no morality, no determination.  they're just tools.  they can be used to slaughter people or animals, they can be used to defend, they can be used as a symbol, they can be used as entertainment.

now, people, those can be some dangerous critters

The guns don't have intent, morality etc (what you listed) but they give people with bad intent and no morality the chance (tool) to kill many innocent people.

yup, and the scary thing is, guns in America seem relatively easy to get since something like 9 out of 10 Americans owns a gun.

so does a box cutter or a uhaul full of fertilizer and diesel fuel.  eliminating guns won't make the world a safer place.

this individual was appearantly detirmined to kill police officers. would he use a knife to do that?  shall i  invent dozens of horrible ways to kill police officers?  i suppose i could.

Yes but they all take time, planning an attack, creating/purchasing explosives. After his spent a day researching how to make a good explosion, bought the elements and planned how he was going to attack them, he has most likely rethought his decision. If theres a gun in the house all you have to do is pick it up.. its true there are plenty of ways to kill people... but having a gun in the house provides a easy and quick way of killing people.

A gun is probably the most efficient way of someone. I'm pretty sure he pretty much just snapped and had a massive lapse in judgement. Sure he could of had other ways to kill those officers. I'm sure the other ways probably would have been no where near as easy as picking up that gun.

Yet another one.

(CNN) -- Five children were found shot to death in a home near Tacoma, Washington, Saturday afternoon, police said.

Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer told CNN that the children, ages 7 to 16, were killed by their father, who apparently committed suicide later in nearby King County.

The children -- four girls and one boy -- were found in a Pierce County home.

Troyer said the children's mother was located after the shootings

Pro Gun arguments seem to get weaker and weaker every day lately. As some here have said, I expect to hear of more stories like this. And it will keep going until US citizens decide to do something about it. That is, agree to have tougher gun laws. They seem to work everywhere else, why not in the US.
I think its interesting how people say "you could use a car etc" , notice how people hardly ever do though.

To be fair, in this most recent case I think gun use is a red herring. The issue here, for me, is what drives people who are suicidal to take others with them - in this case, the victims had no chance of self defence with a gun or otherwise so why/whether a gun was used is irrelevant here.

Actually enforcing already existing laws, now there would be some "change I can believe in".

Although I see where you are coming from , I would argue that although something is driving people to do this shit,  guns just make it so easy to do it. I dont even advocate a total ban or anything, just tougher gun laws.
