The Cybersecurity Act of 2009 introduced in the Senate would allow the president to shut down private Internet networks. The legislation also calls for the government to have the authority to demand security data from private networks without regard to any provision of law, regulation, rule or policy restricting such access.

I don't know guys, it looked kind of harmless to me

Looks like the govt is trying to ensure that private networks that interface with the govt in critical areas have the proper security in place to prevent cyber terrorism or espionage... ala china espionage. Let the govt look into those networks and shut them done to public access in an emergancy to prevent critical systems from being compromised. Think 9/11 cell phone coverage for emergancy workers. Also makes all cyber security people be licensed.

Two bad things this might do is but its too vague to tell
1. allow the shut down of peer to peer networks - A RIAA wet dream and
2. to prevent people from encryting the internet, which I think is the next big privacy/security step for peer to peer.

The biggest push I see coming in the future would be the requirement that all people have an identifier when using the internet... bye bye anonymity. But I didn't see that in there.
