This is not a petty retaliatory thread, it's a spin-off thread from a discussion me and my good friend lowing had about Barrack Obama and how he won the last Presidential election. It would seem that there are people out there who truly believe that black Americans vote entirely along racial lines and hence that it is the only reason Barrack Obama is now kickin' it in the Oval office. If this is in fact the case then why didn't the Republicans simply put forward a black candidate to nullify this angle of the election race?

No.
Not as some sort of petty retaliation to Obama.
Should they run one in an election soon? Yes, but he has to be backed an awesome PR team just as Obama was.

Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.
That was a point I was trying to make to lowing. It's very easy to say race is what won it for Obama but to do that would be to deny one of the most forward-thinking online campaigns in the history of US politics. Obama's web team were thinking outside the box at every juncture while McCain was struggling to keep up with what Google was.Flecco wrote:

The Democrats did not put him into place simply because he was black, either.
Just have to look at the bitter battle Obama had to fight against Hilary on issues to see that.
Although, should the Republicans put forward a female Presidential candidate is just as a valid question.

I didnt vote for a black president I voted for the best candidate
Not according to people like lowing. According to him Obama only got into office because of his skin colour and because of a superficial media fascination in him.Locoloki wrote:

Race is indeed a big part of Obama's victory.. no doubt that a big majority of the "minority" voted for him not because he's black but only because he is not white.
But one thing for sure is that any democrat would have won against McCain.. So two black candidate one against each other? Probably in 2012

Idk, I think the 'battle' between Obama and Hillary was staged for the benefit of the public.AussieReaper wrote:

Was just the guys pulling the strings behind the Democrats seeing who was more photogenic.
I still think they were taking the piss with that election though.
'Hmm guys, so Bush has fucked up massively in the public opinion polls and we have a chance to get anybody we like into office.'
'I know, lets run Hillary!'
'Haha, that's a good one.... OH SHIT GUYS HOW ABOUT THAT BLACK GUY WITH THE MUSLIM NAME? You know the dude who did that great speech at national convention during the last election. Man, if we got him into the office we'd know the republicans are fucked.'

Yes, nowadays people seem very quick to forget that Bush left with the lowest approval rating ever, and that Obama ruined the country in 3 months.Flecco wrote:

Eh?
I missed the part where the USA was ruined. Seems to be in rough shape compared to the glory days sure but it's hardly on the verge of collapse.

I wasn't aware any of the US citizens, even lowing, thought the USA as a whole was on the verge of total collapse. Maybe Mitch does, but not anybody else...Locoloki wrote:

No, having a black nominee for no other reason than the fact that Obama is black would not work. Republicans ALREADY tried this tactic against him for the Illinois senators seat. Brought in Alan Keyes from Maryland who just got massacred in the polls.
no. that had nothing to do with it. repubs fucked up and tons of sheep thought the dems could right the ship (not doing to well so far). i was amazed it was a close as it was tbh.
Braddock, time to be fair here.Braddock wrote:

I never said he was elected because he was black solely. Being Black only solidified the minority vote
I said he was elected because, coupled with his race, and the votes that drew, he was made out to be celebrity, a rock star. People fainting at the sight of him. He was made out to be the second coming Christ.
All of what I just mentioned along with the entitlement attitude that America embraces is what got him elected. Celebrity worship and not the issues saw him into the white house.
Alan Keyes, conservative political activist, author, former diplomat, and perennial candidate for public office... a man who threw his hat into the ring in the Presidential race in 1996 and yet strangely wasn't swept into power by the single-minded voting policies of black America! How does this square with your race card argument lowing?pilebomb wrote:

Wrong lowing, his issues got him past Hilary Clinton, that race was dragged out forever over every detail of their policies. Furthermore, he had to pay particular attention to his issues to subsequently secure the Hilary Clinton fan base vote after he beat her. As an outsider it did not seem to me that he was cruising on reputation and ignoring the issues at any stage of the election race. Do you think we here in Europe love Obama because he is a "rockstar"? Get over yourselves, we like Obama because unlike Bush he represents a move towards international stability. It was beginning to seem to us here in Europe that America was sliding into fascism and Obama represented hope to the contrary. He has already announced the closure of Guantanamo bay, an end to America's policy of ignoring International law regarding the treatment of captives, an end to the US occupation of Iraq, an increased emphasis on where the terror really is (Afghanistan and Pakistan), he has already extended the olive branch to the people of Iran... you can hate him for your own reasons, as Europeans he's doing okay so far by our expectations.lowing wrote:
