I smell reality show...  12 wacky enemy combatants try and live together in a fully furnished townhouse in San Fran... special guest appearances
by former Real World cast members...lol

Yesterday, Attorney General Holder said that some of the current Guantanamo detainees may be released in the United States. Press reports indicate that Holder and the Obama administration are considering releasing some or all of the Uighur detainees at Guantanamo onto U.S. soil. That would be a mistake.

There are currently 17 Uighurs held at Guantanamo. Five others were previously sent to Albania. All 22 of the Uighurs are openly opposed to the Chinese government, but claim that they have no animosity for America. Before the Obama administration dropped the “enemy combatant” label altogether, the government decided that the Uighurs did not satisfy the definition of an “enemy combatant.”

It is not entirely clear why. The Uighur detainees were initially classified as enemy combatants during hearings at Guantanamo and then, only later, the classification was dropped. It may be that the politics of Guantanamo (including pressure from various anti-Gitmo groups, and pro-Chinese opposition sentiment) played a role in that decision. It is also likely that the government thought it was not worth fighting in the courts after judges decided the Uighurs did not meet the enemy combatant standard. (In my view, the opinions that have been issued thus far ignore a wealth of publicly-available information.)

There's probably thousands of former WW2 German Nazi's in the USA, you always hear stories of these crazy prison guards etc.. finding themselves in some random suburbs

Some things I never understand like how so many Nazi's were allowed in the USA and were given full freedom yet at the very same time you were getting black Americans...well you get the idea. Shit like that makes you think about the USA at times, this wasn't even that long ago

Although I don't get what these guys are doing in Gitmo, they may be anti-PRC but they're also Muslims so they probably were going for a Jihad in Afghanistan or something, I mean it is just across the border for them

Two names for you, Wernher von Braun and Walter Riedel

They were the heads of the German V-2 rocket program.  We (USA) poached them, and put them to work after WW-2 developing our manned spaceflight missile tech & ICBM tech.

And, after WW-2, there were a good number of disillusioned Germans that immigrated to the US.  I think more than a few of the former German soldiers may have moved to the USA after knowledge of the Nazi final solution became more commonly known.

Big distinction between the Wehrmacht soldiers, and the Nazi death-camp guards.  Read up on Generalfeldmarschall Erwin Rommel or Großadmiral Erich Raeder if you want a stark illustration of the distinction.

Well, to be fair, most of the people we've detained at Gitmo don't compare to Nazi death camp guards.

We could go with the pre-WW2 European push behind Zionism which led to the current Israeli-Palestinian problem we see today.

But that wouldn't be relevant to the OP either.

@ the OP: We've got certain "quality factors" that new immigrants must meet. They can't be criminals (unless it's political asylum they're seeking), etc. Maybe these guys need to claim political asylum because they are persecuted in their home countries...but without knowing the circumstances under which they were captured or why they were sent to Gitmo, it's hard to say.
