We had a guide like that stickied for a long time:
http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id=31852No one really pays any attention to it. The main issue is that most people here aren't trying to engage in a debate, they are trying to prove themselves right and/or other people wrong. Arguing =/= debating. Add in the fact that a great number of people here have never taken any type of logic class let alone been a part of a debate team and you get the wonderful cesse pool called Debate and Serious Talk. Funnily enough, most of the people that complain about the tone and content of D&ST have the least amount of worthwhile input in this section.
That sure,
... but here's my short guide, actually know something and demonstrate some understanding. And, a person with an entrenched dogmatic opinion is virtually pointless to debate; as well as those suffering from: empty-head syndrome, I just Googled my opinion syndrome, cut & paste syndrome, news is deep serious thought syndrome, etc...
PS: I think: talk and a causal exchange of information and ideas--would conceptually be a better sub-forum and a better sub-forum to aspire to (and would be far more adult).
