NK said they're going to launch between April 4-8.
They also said it's a satellite delivery system didn't they?

Besides, if NK had a nuke and launched it at the USA, I'd make damn sure I was IN the USA. It would probably land in the Pacific somewhere.
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.

China would be more interested in taking over far east Russia for the resources and land than try to take out the US.  With 1 billion people and a need for land, Chinese people are already spreading across the border and settling into Russia.

If NK tried to pull something, the Chinese might be the ones invading NK. If NK attack the US, I think China would rather take over NK than let the US bomb it or invade it.

Id say Australia is a more valid target, easier farming, living, and transportation conditions. Got a bunch of resources as well.

I agree that China has the possibility of trying to take over NK as well, doubt they want to lose that area from their sphere of influence.

China and Russia have fought border skirmishes before. Not just patrol on patrol, Battalion sized engagments. They hate each other.

Australia is a bit further from China than eastern Russia and has only enough water for it's present population of 20 million or so, not to mention Indonesia (200-250 million, mostly Muslim) would be more than a little unhappy with it.  Either that or they'd try to join in with the land grab.

They forgot one Scenario. The Scenario that doesn't sell any papers. NK successfully launches a satellite and the world keeps on spinning except some talk here and there about NK having long range missile technology.

In times of Mao. Mao is dead more then quorter /century. Since that Russia-China relations became better, yet not as good as pre-1960's.

I have been looking at all this for a long time and I used to think the same thing.  It could be a problem in the future, but we are ok for the moment.
This would be concerning, if only China didn't hold so much US debt.  If they go to war with us, we don't pay them back, and there goes their entire economy.  In that sense, our debt is preventing WWIII.

I have 300 pages of research that say otherwise.

Both scenario A and scenario B have significant flaws in their "analysis":

A: Just about any country would be able to determine if an interceptor took down the missile/payload. It's not like it could be done and then denied. China tried that with their direct ascent ASAT a while back...didn't work too well for them.

B: A high-altitude EMP wouldn't take out the US's sensors...it would seriously disrupt civilian life, though. Our sensors, comms, silos, etc are hardened against just such an attack. Since it would be viewed as a nuclear attack against the US, I'm guessing conventional force strainage wouldn't really matter WRT our response to nK.
