Pity he lost the leadership of the main Opposition coalition just a few months ago. Political disaster for the Liberal Party, lost them even more ground when they couldn't afford it.
By the way, he's an ex-member of our major left-wing political party. He's also the wanker who fucked up our RAAF air defence capabilities. Ignored all the advice he received from others, walked into a 2 hour presentation with Boeing and signed the deal afterward. Well done Nelson, now the Indonesians have superior aerial combat capabilities.

Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.

so he is kind of like obama
He was going for that kind of angle. Markets himself as a relatively young, enthusiastic, moderate and sympathetic doctor (he's a qualified medical practitioner) who cares about the people. Didn't work with the Aussie public. We picked a dorky diplomat who loves China.

Ya mean the guy that told Muslims if they didn't like Australia the way it is to get the fuck out? He is a left wing nut job?
Thankfully he has been voted out. As much as we dont want Sharia law over here, Howard is notorius for using this sort of stuff as a scare tactic to keep himself elected. Look up children overboard, Northern Territory intervention etc. Also check out "Non core promises" These are the promises that he makes before an election , then pretends they didnt happen.
Fortunately it didnt work in the end, we grew tired of the scare tactics and voted him out. The Liberal/National party has been a shambles ever since.
Flecco is spot on regarding Brendan Nelsons actions with the RAAF.
Hey Flecc Meister, what do you think of Turnbull at the moment. He is making waves in the libs, he actually does seem to be more left than they would like.
Well that doesn't surprise me lowing. If you can exploit fear, the liberal party know how to do it best.
Here's one of the suburbs they get overwhelming support from, wonder why:

He's not going to shake the "born with a silver spoon" image though. And Costello is haunting the backbench like a tormented spirit that won't rest until it get is given the top opposition job, but is too scared to challenge.
I can not see why Costello is still there tbh. It's not like he needs the money from politics. Bob Carr left NSW Labor and went straight into Macq Bank (no conflict of interest there lol). The only reason, would be that he'll challenge when the Liberal party is at it's lowest, so he can come in raise a bit of support and even if they lose the next election he can say well I tried, and look at all the support I did gain.
Actually lowing, theres no way you could have voted for John Howard. He was in charge of the "Liberal Party". I am sure you couldnt vote for that party based on the name alone.

I wouldn't give a shit if they called themselves the Nazi Party, if they followed small govt. and avoided a welfare, socialist state. I am all for it.
Actually they had massive govt. It got to its largest ever in the Howard years . They were hardly avoiding welfare state status either. There was a baby bonus of $5000 for each child born. He started $8000 rebates for people that bought solar power. Massive tax breaks for people with kids. Although these were mainly vote grabs. Maybe he wasnt your cup of tea after all. He sure didnt like foreigners though.

They might as well have.

Turnbull seems to be struggling to move the party to the centre. The Howard right are fighting it, and making the libs look pretty pointless. Still they will come back eventually. Its so important to have a working opposition. John Hewson, former Lib leader gave Costello a tirade recently about how he should quit and go home as he was just damaging the party. He was right on the money too.

Oh well. I shoulda known it was too good to be true.

Think you mean right wing.
Costello is just a twat, he'll say anything if he thinks it will get him attention, but anyone living in any country anywhere should abide by the local customs.
The Brethren should start behaving themselves, so should the Scientologists, also Catholic priests should stop interfering with little kids or sod off to Italy.

Brendan Nelson? He was in the Labor Party.
Vspy, didn't see squat about it on 'a current affair'. Don't watch it. Only televised news programs I watch are the abc news (very occasionally), 7:30 report and sometimes those ones that come on Sunday morning on the ABC.
He bought a set of planes that are almost obsolete already and invested several million dollars in a plane that is still in prototype/design phase, instead of picking up some Euro fighters. How is that not a cock-up? In the long run it cost us more and for what purpose? Kiss ass with Boeing? Keep in the USA's good books as far as arms-trading goes?
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.
Flecs you should watch SBS from 6:30pm til 7 then switch it over to the abc.
And another of the problems with the fighters he bought is that all the electronics were copyrighted and classified material so if we want to repair them we have to pay US mechanics to, and we can't modify the system at all.

I am so confused, there are people arguing differing points of view about different people in different parties at different times that have fuck all to do with each other. Lowing WTF are you on about??? We don't even have a fucking president.
