He was going for that kind of angle. Markets himself as a relatively young, enthusiastic, moderate and sympathetic doctor who cares about the people. Didn't work with the Aussie public. We picked a dorky diplomat who loves China.

Costello also has a few choice quotes on the issue regarding their choice of residency if they want Shari'a law.

Well that doesn't surprise me lowing. If you can exploit fear, the liberal party know how to do it best.

I can not see why Costello is still there tbh. It's not like he needs the money from politics. Bob Carr left NSW Labor and went straight into Macq Bank (no conflict of interest there lol). The only reason, would be that he'll challenge when the Liberal party is at it's lowest, so he can come in raise a bit of support and even if they lose the next election he can say well I tried, and look at all the support I did gain.

Actually they had massive govt. It got to its largest ever in the Howard years . They were hardly avoiding welfare state status either. There was a baby bonus of $5000 for each child born. He started $8000 rebates for people that bought solar power. Massive tax breaks for people with kids. Although these were mainly vote grabs. Maybe he wasnt your cup of tea after all. He sure didnt like foreigners though.

Turnbull seems to be struggling to move the party to the centre. The Howard right are fighting it, and making the libs look pretty pointless. Still they will come back eventually. Its so important to have  a working opposition. John Hewson, former Lib leader gave Costello a tirade recently about how he should quit and go home as he was just damaging the party. He was right on the money too.

Howard was a keen opportunist up until his fourth term. That's why he lost in my opinion, he lost his radar (yes, I'm talking about workchoices)

(oh and by the way the next election will be my first vote...).

Vspy, didn't see squat about it on 'a current affair'. Don't watch it. Only televised news programs I watch are the abc news (very occasionally), 7:30 report and sometimes those ones that come on Sunday morning on the ABC.

He bought a set of planes that are almost obsolete already and invested several million dollars in a plane that is still in prototype/design phase, instead of picking up some Euro fighters. How is that not a cock-up? In the long run it cost us more and for what purpose? Kiss ass with Boeing? Keep in the USA's good books as far as arms-trading goes?
