All the rail/utilities companies that have been privatised in the UK and then sold off to foreign companies who then jack the prices up so they can give better prices to people in their own country aka fuck you E-ON and FRANCE (get out of the FA Cup you bastards), and CPoe I bet you have a hand in all this too, with your Irish Electricity Grid network, you're all evil
Re nationalise all that shit and fucking get the prices back down to normal levels...
Typical big scary conspiracy companies like Monsato/Big Oil/Halliburton etc etc..
Liverpool F.C, well actually pretty much the entire city of Liverpool although I guess it already has failed
And basically any company that deserves to fail and the only reason it hasn't is because the government gave them lots of money because they're good at persuading the polly's to give them money
also Starbucks

But I don't want them to fail - then I'd probably end up another casualty of the reccession!!
But if I didn't work for them, I'd be routing for them to fail.

Well, my main beef with Apple is they charge too much for products that have less choices and mediocre quality.Kmarion wrote:

For example, gaming on a Mac is a fucking joke.
Apple would be a much needed alternative to Microsoft if they just did business smarter. As it currently stands, they seem to willingly allow themselves to be a niche market that is overpriced and impractical for most users.

Of course he has stock in Apple. You do know the history of those two companies don't you?

Apple has been doing just fine since Jobs got back into the act.

If it were not for the ipod, Apple might have already vanished.
Malloy must go
Which is why Apples strategy is great. They are far more profitable on each unit than Microsoft. You can't take on Microsoft directly, you have to take niche corners of their market and build on that. This is exactly what Apple have been doing. Very successfully. Doesn't matter that their products are rubbish - they're desirable rubbish. That's what people want.Turquoise wrote:
Stock values don't mean much when your competitor has a much much higher percentage of the market.
It's performance and yes it does matter. There is a very valid reason people are paying a premium for Apple stock as opposed to Microsoft. You said Microsoft is doing business better than Apple. That is a complete lie and anyone who knows anything about how each company is performing now can see that. Apple has been turning huge profits.Turquoise wrote:

The reason I mentioned Gates's ownership is that it might have something to do with why Apple has never become a true competitor to Microsoft. It's like the market is basically stacked.
Also, Jobs is still an idiot. He might be charismatic, but he basically plays on the ignorance of his consumers.
Jobs is an idiot WTF are you on?

He's not an idiot. His target market is primarily composed of them though.Kmarion wrote:

Exactly what I have been trying to say. I would never (unless I had money to waste) buy an Apple product.Bertster7 wrote:

And which direction are Apple expanding in?Turquoise wrote:
I'll give you the fact that Jobs knows his market, but it's a very niche market. It's not what most people want, at least in terms of computers.
Now, the Ipod is quite different. When it comes to small media devices, Apple does great. They still charge too much, but they know how to sell their stuff.
iPod, iPhone, Apple TV - even the MacBook Air to an extent (I don't class it as a computer, it's a corporate toy).
The MacBook has been taking a share of the market as well. I just want them around to keep their competitors looking over their shoulders.Bertster7 wrote:

More software is slowly being developed for Leopard. It is hard to break up a Monopoly that has been blessed by the US government. Also, MS makes a real good OS and most people won't even upgrade from XP, so why would they throw away software to go to leopard?ATG wrote:

Apple needs to give away their OS for a couple years to Corporations and Private Citizens while developing a " Games for Apple " and " Bussnessware for Apple " bussiness model of helping support developers that develop Applewarz. It wouldn't really cost them too much vs rewards, especially with the current downturn in the economy.
It's funny.. the EU makes Microsoft produce a version of windows that nobody buys. It just drives the cost up for everyone else. GJLotta_Drool wrote:

It isn't that it has been 'blessed' by the US government. It has become the standard (not because of it being better, but by being better marketed). They have tried to break Microsoft up several times into different branches. There is only so far you can break it up before you are breaking the company apart and destroying it.Lotta_Drool wrote:

Apple should also let people build 'clone' platforms. That is what got the PC (and Microsoft) such a large base.
Let or not.. it's happening.

The key to gaining market share in the computer market is being friendly to manufacturers and software companies.
Apple and it's share holders are quite happy.

I'd consider that I would have some 'technical knowledge of computers' and I'm happy to say I have a MacBook. Everyone knows that I like aesthetics a lot, but I didn't just buy it for that. In a 13" machine this has everything I want - and what's wrong with me buying that? It has the performance I need, the reliability that I need and the portability that I need.Turquoise wrote:
anyone with any technical knowledge of computers would never buy a Mac unless they just really like their aesthetics.
I'll agree that their prices need some serious revision. But I just took a onto DELL and a similar spec'ed laptop is £899 - only around £100 less than what I paid for this. What's wrong with going for a niche market? Any company wants profit and Apple can do it brilliantly in a smaller market. You want them to expand? Half of the posts here are all about large company domination but now apparently a small company is a bad thing too.Turquoise wrote:

To turn around Apple and hold it together (as we're seeing now with his absence) I wouldn't call him an 'idiot'. Would you still? The guy is a (no pun) genius for what he has done. He's not only targetted a small market with an arguably-worse product, but he's making great profit for the company and for himself.Turquoise wrote:

What most people want is exactly what Apple can't give. Bertster7 got it right - they make a much higher margin of profit per product than the likes of Microsoft. And the 'very niche market' - Apple are dominating the media market now..Turquoise wrote:
I must have touched a nerve....
It's like Bert said. Apple is great at marketing, but that's the extent of it. The vast majority of the market buys Microsoft (or downloads it ).
I and many, many other people have no desire to buy something that gives me few gaming options and few third party software options for other things like business tools.
I'll give you the fact that Jobs knows his market, but it's a very niche market. It's not what most people want, at least in terms of computers.

Umm........what? The key to gaining market share is targetting the market. Apple have already started building a lot of stuff themselves (presumably for higher profits, but they say better quality)Turquoise wrote:

^ smart guy. And the irony of all this? I own a PC and love it to bits.Lotta_Drool wrote:

Anyway, as for my contribution to this thread - compensation firms. Do I really need justification?
