Wow, your comparisons couldn't be more wrong.
I wont go into explaining what I said as I don't think I need to. But I will say this, lets say your on the battlefield and on the ground you see a weapon which is a lot better then yours. Would you not pick it up and make use of it ? Of course you fuking would.
That's the thing though, the UN is disarming leftover explosives to prevent further civilian casualtions from UXO. Hamas was put in charge of guarding it and all they've done is prevent the weapons being disarmed so they can use them for their own needs, which doesn't point to obeying any cease-fire that comes about.
First of all, they really ant a cease fire in place. Check the news, shit is still happening, just on a smaller scale.
Many of the explosives had been collected by the Hamas authorities in the Gaza Strip.
The UN staff had been waiting for the Israeli army to allow them to bring specialist equipment into Gaza so they would be able to destroy the explosives safely.
In particular, the team needed explosives or flares to set off a controlled explosion and they needed tools to allow them to extract fuses from some of the bombs.
The UN staff were also waiting for permission from the Israeli military to use two safe areas to dispose of the munitions.
You have to keep it mind the fact that (as the article says) Hamas collected the gear and were guarding it for the UN BECAUSE THEY ARE SUCH GOOD PEOPLE. I think we should blame the isreali for taken so long to give permission, if they had not taken so long, maybe Hamas would not have had enough time to change their mind.
The whole "disarming leftover explosives to prevent further civilian casualtions " would be a good point, but doesn't really have the effect your thinking about. If they mines for example, then fair enough. But we're talking about 500 pound bombs here, big difference.
