The new US administration has welcomed Venezuela's vote to scrap term limits on the Presidency. I believe this is intelligent in that it is disarming. It is a bit hard to cry 'evil America' when public pronouncements of this nature are made by the administration. I believe it rolls back on years of false and hollow 'Democracy Promotion' hypocrisy too. It could of course simply be a ruse, an empty gesture while the CIA machinate in the background. But personally I think that it is important that the democratic will of the people of the nation of Venezuela be respected. The poll was declared free and fair by all international observers (of which there were many), just like the referendum poll not so long ago that Chavez lost. The election result should send a clear message to the right wing in Venezuela - that they need to reach out to the disaffected and impoverished people upon whose backs they made and make their fortunes. If they don't then goodness knows where Venezuela will end up (although so long as democracy persists it will be a Venzueula of their own making - for good or for bad).
