Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.
During watching all of this I was wondering what would happen to the spine, knowing it was 1970 it was obvious the monkey would be paralysed and they couldn't attach it, but they didn't really show how they kept the blood flowing to the spinal column outside the monkeys body.
Now researchers are able to regrow spinal cord nerves from stem cells (nothing that has as yet been to this scope, but the potential has been found). I think that it will be possible to do it eventually.

Yeah Reaps in the wiki article it mentions that most of the things they performed experiments like this on, including a two headed dog, died because they didn't know how to repair the spinal column afterward.
