I hate my damn job but it's impossible for a skillless 17 year old to get one nowadays. That's the only reason I haven't quit; the job is relatively secure in that I'm one of the better employees.

Anyone else wishing they could get new jobs?

Yep...  same here.  I'm paid decent and have decent benefits, but the job itself is tedious as fuck.

I meant I have no skills

@Turq I get minimum wage lulz. I mean it's a fucking mindless job but still. What annoys me isn't the pay but the workers. They're kind of douchey, they're not that professional, and they sometimes get on my nerves. I've had my supervisor (kinda jokingly) have customers call me a "pussy" cause I'm not good at asking girls out, I have people eat my fucking chips I bring from Chipotle without asking permission, and for fuck's sake one dude came into work tonight (he didn't have a shift but he came in anyway) completely fucking shitfaced. And the manager sure as hell didn't care.

The store is poorly managed; we regularly run out of shit like wash rags and ice creams. Our frozen yogurt machine goes fucking nuts at least once a week. It's pure fail, the only reasons I've been sticking around are the security of the job and the fact that in the winter you do fuck all work and get paid for it.

Baskin-Robbins?  I used to work at one of those.  My coworkers apparently enjoyed doing whipits with the empty whip cream cans.

They always offered me some too, but I was like "Nah, I'd like to keep my brain cells."

Needless to say, I didn't eat any ice cream for a few years after that.

@Turq it's a local chain

@Kmarion I have to graduate first. And my mom would never sign off on it (I'm 17). And I'm sure as fuck not fit enough.

I'm wishing it was easier to get employees who are willing to work.

"Yeah, I need some work so I can get paid! Oh, I don't want to come in today. Do you really need me? Hey, I know you have a bed of hot mix that's in danger of cooling to the point where it's unusable, but I'm hungry so I'm going into this restaurant for lunch. Well, we've been out since 6AM and it's already NOON, so when are we going home? By the way, are we working this weekend? Are we done yet? Man, I'm worn out. Yeah, I had the last two weeks off, but I'd like this weekend off...hi, this is so-and-so, are we working tomorrow? Hey, this is so-and-so again. I know you've got tomorrow planned out, but it looks like I can't make it."

I thought there was a big recession going on, so shouldn't people want to try harder to keep their jobs? Stuff like this is tough on a small business with few employees, and it's not as if we underpay, either. It's not fair to the on-site foreman either. I like to establish friendships with new employees, put a good deal of effort into training them, and it puts me on the spot to have to play devil's advocate with the company owners to keep them on.

Its like the everywhere though, if you work in foods at least. But yeah it's more of a pain to find one.

Shit good news is Tim Horton's is accepting applications, we need overnighters.

Yeah but if they start cutting jobs I wager I'd be one of the last to get the boot.

H2K9: Get fit, and if people mess with your stuff, tell them to fuck off.  After you've done your job for a while, you'll be able to add "customer service" to your skillset - this tells a potential employer that you're able to put up with bullshit from clueless wankers if the need arises, this skill alone has value in almost any job you'll ever have.  Working in food means you're likely to have a basic grasp of health & safety also.

Nope The guy who hired me said that we got an automatic pay raise after about a month of satisfactory work. Never happened. Then again this guy got fired a few weeks after hiring me for stealing money from the register so...

Dude, get yourself and education, a vocation or an apprenticeship and get some skills. Might be tough for a few years to get the skills, but you carry them through life. Your only 17 ffs.  Pick a path and get fucking good at that job, so when the times are tough its the ppl who are bad at that job loose work, you don't.
I spent 2 years in an apprenticeship were I got paid £50 a week and studied too. Less than you get on benefits. Now I am making good money because of those hard times. Just had the best few weeks at work I have ever had.

If you don't have any skills you aren't going to find a good job in a good economy either.

Move to south east Asia - that's where all the jobs will have migrated to when they eventually come back.

If you really don't like your job, there is always manual labor. Construction, painting, yard work, etc.
