Graphics card issue

My freind has a Dell 2400, his CPU spd is above 2.0 ghz with 512 ram. He bought a ATI 9250 PCI 128mb Radeon video card. He has installed all of the patches including the latest drivers from ATI. But when he loads up the game and right when the login page starts, his screen goes black and grey with the music playing in the background. He then has to reboot his system to get back to his desktop. I know the readme file says that the 9250 has issues. Is there any thing that can be done about this? It's driving him nuts!

Try an older version of catalyst.
More difficult is to handle it with ATI tool.
There you can activate/deactivate special options like shader unit, or the asymetric.
But this is very complex, and at own risk !

yeah the 9250 is what i had, it doesnt work, go buy something cheap like a 9550 or an nvidia 5200/5500 or a 9800 pro if ya can find one

Is the 9250 better than the 9000 pro??

I only ask, as I have a 9000 pro, and it is never in any of the supported cards lists, but I dont have any problems. (Except for the Lego men. Oh... and the fact that it looks like something I could have knocked up in half an hour in MS Paint!!)

Thanks for the help. He.s returning the card back to Dell and getting a NVidia 5500 or a 6200. I have a 6200 myself and running 768 Ram. I have no problems at all. He learned a lesson that ATI basically stinks.
Go figure...NVidia is teamed up with EA Games(Battlefield 2) and ATI has to spend money on their cards to make them work hense scewing them up. My oppinion of coarse.

Just get him to get a better PSU. Pretty stupid if you ask me wasting money on a new card that's so crappy...

ATI doesn't stink. The video card isn't supported like alot of Nvidias aren't. If he buys a 5500 then that will be a waste aswell. Go get a list of supported video cards before you buy one.

lol the 5500 isn't supported but i had one after the 9250 and my too babies *drools on mouse* it does work,( mmm 2x bfg 7800gt OC)

dell can go jump off a cliff. Its so much cheaper to build ur own computer.
Lucky for me 2 evga 7800 gtx's 512mb they are beasts.

fatty what power supply are you using. Whenever i put my 7800 gtxs into SLI mode the computer crashes in 3d games. I'm using a thermaltake 680 watt; EVGA tech support told me it wasnt enough.
