The point is....
Gun control, as done by Canadian Law, has NOT worked, will not work and is a 1 billion dollar toilet flush.

Some background info.

Long guns MUST have a barrel lenght of 30 inch or more (I think)
Pistols with a barrel lenght of LESS then 6 1/4 inch are BANNED (Law enforcement excused)

To get a Long Gun licence
Criminal background check
Safety course
This will get you a F.A.C.   Firearms Accusation Certificate

Long Gun MUST be stored in an approved Gun Safe with a trigger guard installed.
Ammo stored in a different room in a ammo safe.

Pistol and ammo the same.

For a Pistol licence
F.A.C
Member in good standing with a pistol club.
Psych evaluation.
Registration with the area police of what you have.

And the one that will drive some nuts........

At ANY time, the police may enter your home to check that you are in compliance with the Safe Storage Rules.

If anyone files a "Threatening" complaint, spouse or neighbour get's into a verbal fight with you, the police can take all your firearms and they don't have to return them.

I'm sure that some of these rules have changed or are on the books but, not enforced.

Not all but, most, of the firearms used for crime in Canada have been smuggled in from the States.
1300 from one gun store in Chicago have been taken off the streets in Toronto. The store was raided by ATF and closed for paper work problems. The owner was allowed to keep his stock and has been charged for selling them on the black market.

I have a Canadian buddy who went through the baloney to get a handgun license. He didn't mention that. I wonder if they even practice that right very often.

Still, it wouldn't go over very well in the US.

Meh, I agree that it's fairly pointless in general, but massacres like VT could have been prevented if mentally unstable people were not allowed access to guns.
Actually I don't really think they used pistols (which are really the only kind to buy/register legally unless it's something like a hunting rifle etc.[and unless you're in Texas]). The pictures I saw were with AK-47s and other assault rifles. Plus, mentally unstable people aren't just mentally unstable for a day or two. They'll wait to legally get a gun. They have no way of telling if someone is mentally unstable. The registration is more or less meant for hotheadedness (temporary[ish]) as opposed to mental instability.
